Thanks for the reply. I have that video. It's very good. I was just wondering what everyone else packs for survival.

And so, to all outdoor folks, the knife is the most important item of equipment.

Since you have the video, then I can be more specific.

I have several kits, #1 is similar to the Mini Kit, #2 is between the Mini and the Maxi and #3 is like a Maxi kit on steroids. #4 is a full blown backpack.

#1 is carried daily with two folding knives, a SAK and a Buck Solitaire.

#2 is carried when on the road for a day and sightseeing/shopping. It is in a 35 mm camera case. I've beefed up the items from #1 and added a couple of small cable snares, complete fishing kit in a pill bottle, space blanket, another pocket knife, slingshot band, sling, soup/cocoa packets, MFS, and a few other odds n ends.

#3 is in fanny pack or buttpack and resides in the car. This has a military poncho, tent stakes, USAF SK, several cable snares including two coyote size, 1/4" rope, pocket chainsaw, small hatchet, mousetrap, more fishing gear including three SPEEDHOOKS, folding wristrocket with ammo.

I should really write up my kits and add them to that page. :lol

I would say find the largest tin can you can find that fits in the fanny pack, and stuff it with things you like to survive with. My personal priorities in survival go something like this...

Fire. metal match/tinder/matches
Water. The tin can, forementioned fire, iodine tabs.
Shelter. Space blanket or two. Also serves as signalling. I expect to have clothing suitable to the current climate on my person.
Navigation. A compass.

I would add a knife, and maybe some drink flavorings. I would probably add some wire, fishing line and hooks, and wrap duct tape around the outside of the can so I don't have to open my kit to use the duct-tape. I personally don't value food items very high in a survival situation. A coupla coffee 'singles' would rank on my needs list before the food...
