Hi guys,
Need y'alls assistance in finding a maker again.

I encountered a handmade khukri a few weeks ago at our local gunshow (I'm in Seattle, the show was in Puyallup.) But this wasn't just any khukri - the maker is apparently from the northern Oregon area, and he specializes in a khukri survival package... Okay, what's different you may ask?
Well, not only does he make the khukri itself, but he also makes the two auxilliary blades (and they are actual blades as opposed to two pieces of steel with little handles put on and stuck in the back of the sheath!) and he makes two other items and tucks them into two little pouches on the front of the traditionally styled sheath - a flint'n'steel combo and a sharpener... And all four auxilliary pieces share the same handle material as the handle on the khukri.
It's my understanding that he makes these as his harduse backcountry survival package and builds them to handle the abuse...

Does anybody recognize this guys work, knows his name.. and maybe even can come up with an address or email?

EDITED TO SAY I FOUND HIM!!!

I went back to our local Arms Collectors show and there it was! So I bought it... But I don't have pics or an address...just a name -
Alan Boruk from Portland!!!

:D

And once I got it home, it just begs to be swung at something!
And the flint'n'steel works, the diamond sharpener is perfect for it's intended use and the two auxilliary blades are sharp enough for any job! And the whole package looks good, too!

Anyone looking for a handforged khukri as a survival package should definitely check this guy out. And it's my understanding that he will be at the OKCA show in Eugene this April. I hope to meet him there, too!

Anyone interested in looking at this piece, let me know... I just haven't had time to take pics yet... to many knives and not enough money for the hardware to share them visually!! LOL!! :D

Sorry, I can't help you locate the local guy....I don't know if you are aware of Himalayan Imports:
http://www.himalayan-imports.com/

They are the premiere at-the-source khukuri importer/creator....prices are real good for a huge handmade imported knife, IMO. And I'm willing to bet they are much cheaper than any American custom made khukuri.

Thanks for the link, Warthog, and I have checked it out. But the guy I'm looking for has a real interesting variation on the traditional package by including a matching set of flint, steel and sharpener and turning the two auxilliary blades one traditionally finds into actual usable small knives.
And if memory serves... I may already own a Himalyan Import Khukri I bought some years ago at a local gun'n'knife show... at least it is as good quality wise as the ones on their site.
Thanks again!

Anybody else from the Portland, Eugene, Salem area heard of this guy?

joeshredd-- I don't know who manufactures the survival khukuri of which you speak. Hopefully someone will chime in soon. As for Himalayan Imports, I have found the karda and chakma, the auxiliary blades that come with the khukuris, to be very useful. The chamka, though knife-shaped, lacks a sharpened edge. it is used as a blade burnisher, and in the days of yore, was used to strike sparks from flint. The karda is a small utility blade. The ones that have come with all my HI khukuris have been very sharp and functional.

I hope someone has some info about the survial khukuri-- pics would be especially useful.

These are long shots, but see if they ring a bell:).

Roy Genge.
Steve Huey
Wayne Goddard.
Wendell Fox.
Bill Harsley.
Bill Siegle

These are all living makers from out west who have made Bolo's, and/or Kukries.

Bob,
Thanks for the list. I'm real sure it's not the last 4, as I've either met them at shows or seen their work... definitely not the guy I'm looking for.As to the first two... I might have heard of Huey, but he Genge are two I'm pretty sure I haven't seen anything from.
I appreciate the help, and I'll keep looking. If I can ever find a pic, I think everyone would find this guys work to be a well thought out and very presentable package...
Oh well, I'll keep looking!

Josh,
The Himalayan Imports pieces are very nice, and I think mine is maybe not quite up to their quality, as the two auxilliary pieces are too crude to do much with... but the blade's nice. It's just that the one I saw at the gun show had that extra pizazz that has me looking for this particular maker..
Now I guess I'll have to go back to every gunshow in the area and hope the guy selling still has it... I can hope, can't I?

;)

Well, good luck in your quest. Someone on Bladeforums is bound to recognize your description. Please post more info if you find out who the maker is.

I would like to see some pictures as well.

Cerberus:)

Edited to add: I cant find anything about him on the web, so hopefully someone from that region will chime in. Also, a price range for that knife would be great.

Thanks.

Gurkha House is no more...:(
If anyone can come up with contact info for Alan Boruk, it would be greatly appreciated.

Okay, I was finally contacted by Alan Boruk - He does exist! The only problem is that he wants to maintain a low profile... So, if anyone wants to contact him regarding knives... email me and I can provide you with an email address. I also plan to have pics very soon... as I finally succumbed and got a digicam for posting pics... SOooon!;)
