I'll be spending a week Day-hiking and possibly overnight in the Blueridge Mountains. I'm tyring to find out what would be the best way to carry a 2 pound survival kit. My activities will include Climbing, Bushwhacking, and Technical Scrambling. Any help or suggestions would be great.

Just curious, but what do you carry in your kit that adds up to 2 lbs?

How about a bum bag. I've got a few kits assembled of different sizes and all start off in the bag, in my pack. One is roughly 2 pounds and is contained in a stainless steel lunchbox 6" x 4" x 2", another is 4"x3"x1" and the last is 3"x2"x1/2" which is nearly always in a front pocket.
I start by carrying all kits in my pack and according to the hike length, kits get left behind. The smallest kit going virtually everywhere and used regularly. At very least I have my keys with my Leatherman micra with a flint connected.

Island boy, I can imagine the additional weight is food, ie sugar, cereals and some dried foods and the storage container.

My Kit contains a firstaid kit, survival kit(similar in size and contents as a maxi kit), Poncho, Trioxane Stove and 6 tabs, Canteen, and canteen cup. I tried a bum pack a few weeks ago and found that in order to get it to ride properly I had to cutoff the circulation to my lower half.

I've used both of the following:

1) A WW2 surplus G.I. Web belt with a multitude of pouches. Looks silly but distributes the weight and the gear well.

2) A vest. From an old fishing vest... to a tactical vest.

I would recommend a smaller size Camelback. That way you have your water as well on demand, with options for other cargo. I think the mule or HAWG would work well for you.

I would also go with a camelback or try a bum bag with shoulder straps. I have a adidas one with about a 6-8 ltr capacity, and find it spot on for days when I dont need to pack loads of water.I attach kit to the belt and braces and take about 80% of the weight on the shoulders. Its a sort of "sporty" webbing look but what the hell.
Nick.
