Survival kit I made as a gift;

This is not a "survival" kit as many here would consider it...no fishing kit, no snare wire, no water purification tablets, no compass..basically no "long term" survival stuff. This is more of a "oh shit, I'm lost and it's getting dark." kit for a college student who does some woods related activities for some classes.

Two considerations I had to take into account were;

1. This person probably woulden't carry a "big" kit...and if they had a "big" kit, they would be overwhelmed with the stuff that would dump out of a kit like the RAT E&E kit and not know how to use it. This CountyComm PCC has a nice velcro strap attachment on the back, so she won't be fooling around with paracord or any other strapping equiptment; it can be fixed to a bag strap or or belt easily.

2. This person has no real woods experience or knowledge...I had to include common sense stuff. I even wrote "TINDER." on the flammable tinder paper:D

About two-three weeks ago some here were discussing making a survival kit out of a large CountyComm PCC and I said I'd post up pics, so here it is;

So it's basically a sit down/clean some cuts/make a fire and blow your whistle kit:D

Awesome, I did the same thing for a buddy this year only mine is in an altoids tin painted red and black. I like your case better but the items are similar. I included:
bandaids
firesteel
compass
knife
whistle
led light
water bladder
water tablets
matches
immodium
benadryl
RAT survival card
ibuprofen
That's all I can remember.

that's a great looking little kit... nice job...:thumbup: i made some altoids tin kits a few years back and gave them to some bowhunting and mtn. biking friends, as x-mas gifts..:)

Very good idea for Xmas... very thoughtful, and it looks great.... based on the CountyComms pouch, eh? I have about 5 of them kickin around... hmmmmm time to put them into service...

Thanks for the great idea/post.

Fenix lights are amazing, compact and BRIGHT for the size. That could help when lost at night and wont take up too much space. Nice setup BTW

I wish I would have seen this thread before I purchased my stocking stuffer. It would have saved me some cash and it would have been way cooler then what I got! Next year . . . .

That is such a great idea! Well done and sure the person receiving it will appreciate it!

I made a mini survival kit for my girlfriend a few years ago.
Nothing really to survivally about it (we're both urbanites, and she isn't really into the survival/knife obsession thing.)
I stored it in an altoid tin, and it had stuff like $20 emergency cash, a subway pass, photon light, mini SAK, etc.
Putting the thought into a gift like that can make $10 worth $100.

That's a great little kit. Just enough in there to help them out, but not overwhelm them. That would make for a really good Christmas gift. Nice job!

you know for someone who has no idea what there doing that may just be exactly what they need. just something to keep them going until they realize there a mile from campus. my only other suggestion would be a very small fenix flashlight. a little light goes a long way in the dark

Good call. A flashlight definitely fits the "oh shit it's getting dark" theme. I might suggest something a bit cheaper though for a pack that might never be used. Akorays are as bright as Fenix flashlights at a fraction of the price, it's just that their programming interface is not as great.

There is a light in there, a little orange (with white light) CountyComm LED. Definately bright enough for moving around in a general area or check a wound in the dark.

The case everything is in is absolutely PACKED...nothing more can fit in it!
