Survival kit

Full first-aid kit and basic survival kit in the back of the Volvo all the time. Other stuff added depending on the journey.

Regards,

Ed

Not in my car but I usually carry one with me in a shoulder bag that I am more or less never without.

I do carry kind of a bug-out bag in my car. Some multi-purpose clothes, well broke in hiking boots, a servicable fixed blade, flashlight and a multitool as well as firestarters. Not quite a survival kit but at least some basics.

Survival kit with clothes, water, tools, etc. in the car at all times. Medical kit and food kit are kept in a closet and put in the car when I go somewhere and put back in the house when I get home because you shouldn't leave food or meds in the car. It gets too hot and ruins the quality. If I'm going any further than Walmart or the grocery store I grab the bags.

I keep a good first aid kit in my truck, also tools and things like 2 tarps that have "survival" applications. However the items most handy for my "urban survival" include plenty of water, clif bars, nuts and other snacks, wet towel in cooler to wipe brow and keep me cool, solar power radio and small hand fan with extra batteries- these I go thru all the time during LA rush hour traffic.
I keep extra change of clothes too, since mine often get very sweaty in slow hot traffic, especially good if I have appointment and don't want to show up in wet clothes.

Hi,

LArge first aid kit in my car, together with some blankets, rope,tie-raps, galon of water (for cleaning hands, radiator or drinking).

But remember, the heat in a car when parked will destroy lots of first aid stuff within a year, especially self adhesive products and pills and ointments so exchange these on time.

Survival kit "on body" also including a small first aid kit, really tiny one with some bandaids, pills (pain/headache/anti-histamine) anti-baterial ointment) and always a military small trauma dressing, these are waterproof packaged and I've actually swam with one and it kept dry.

Most important item that I always have with me is 'common sense', my brain, I make it a game to look around me wherever I am and make a mental note of things that could cause trouble, could be used to help out in survival / first aid situations etc.
Looking around myself is something that I've had as long as I remember, I guess my father partly 'thaught' it to me when he started taking me on hunts from the age of about 4-5 years.

Best Scouting wishes from Holland,

Bagheera

There is one in my truck, one in each pack, and parts of one on me at most times. I guess it is the Boy Scout in me.

I carry a full medic kit and survival pack when in the truck. It goes back into the house when home.

keep clothes, big survival kit, first aid, tarp, ropes etc. in an LC1 pack
take a butt pack of food, energy bars & water when I am going kinda far from home

There are various redundant items in this pouch, but only in the critical areas. One can never have too many matches, or too many lighters or too many knives, or too many compasses. A knife is the most important survival tool of all. Better to have 3 or 4, than only one. And a fixed blade knife is ALWAYS better than a folding knife for emergency/survival purposes. But any knife is better than none.
In the car permanently:-

- 1 large nylon car cover/ground sheet
- Spotlight/lamp for lighter socket
- Complete toolkit
- Complete first aid kit
- Rechargeable torch
- 20m nylon rope
- Ray Ban Sunglasses
- 1 x Tramontina “Amazonas Two” fixed blade clip point hunting/fishing knife with 14cm blade; 26cm overall length in nylon sheath with hard plastic insert with lanyard and 1 metre Para cord.

That's about it, give or take a couple of items

Check out Doug Ritter's site at www.equipped.org for more ideas etc. regarding survival kits and equipment. I got all my ideas from that site.

I think if I was in South Africa I'd add an R4 or at least an AK. Good luck down there!

LOL, I here you Robert. Yes we do tend to be armed to the hilt down here..:D I also carry a .357 Magnum with a six inch barrell and semi-jacketed hollow-tip rounds:D :D This tends to make quick work of a would-be assailant. Fortunately, I have never had to use it for this purpose and I intend to keep it that way. Thanks:)

Good for you. I'm armed to the teeth myself most of the time. I just took a long trip down south, so the .357 was with me, but I had to throw the 870 in the back as well of course, along with my kit. SA has gone way down when they put that commie Mandela back in charge. It's a shame and a tradgedy. You're welcome up here anytime.

I am always looking for the "perfect" shoulder bag. Can you tell me what make and model yours is?

Kit in the Car and Truck, a mini kit on my person at all times, and I usually have my "Go Bag" with me, and that also has a first aid kit - both larger kits include everything that is in the mini kit, but are different from each other

a)For my mini PSK I use an old Strepsils tin 8.2cm x6.3cm x2cm.
b)For my Larger PSK I use a plastic container which had a mini office set and measures 12cm x8cm x3.6cm and proved to be perfect for the task!!!
I know many people in USA like to use an Altoids tin for their PSK, or a small tobacco tin of similar proportions. It should be just right for your pocket, and not too big that would leave it behind. I would also recommend having a slightly larger one for more things in case of extended survival situation in the wilderness etc.

All my other emergency kit is kept in a canvas camera bag...perfect for this purpose.
