An old friend hitched through town a week ago on his way to South America. He's a traveller and adventure blogger called Alaskan Dude. Because of limited space he needed an all around bush knife that was meant to be abused. I decided to walk him through the process and make him a knife. Since we only had an hour or two a day to work on it we sacrificed a bit on the finish. She ain't pretty but she'll do the work. Please let me know what you all think.

Made from an old leaf spring, edge quenched and triple normalized...the sheath is homebrew black denim micarta. Logo etched with a 12v battery charger and filled with high temp enamel. Forced patina with hydrochloric acid. Test cut several aluminum cans and 2x4s. No chips, dents or rolls.

More pictures of the process can be viewed at alaskandude.com

Thanks for taking a look, feedback is appreciated.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the comments. I had a lot of fun working on it and would love to do another one. Mikeg68, like you I don't have a paid membership so I don't think I can get PM here. Shoot me an email and I'd be glad to discuss doing another one for you. Alaskandude.com has my contact info under the "forging the bush knife" section or you can drop me a line at bigjobsdunsmall@gmail.com.

Cool knife and Alaska Dude seems like a good dude :)

He needs to get an enduro to roll with instead of hoofing it

He's been a friend of mine for about 15 years. We used to go camping and shooting out on the Kenai Penninsula. He was riding a '96 Honda Shadow for a while there but I think he prefers the randomness of hitching...ending up wherever. This is going to be his first trip to South America so I wanted him to be prepared. I'll post pics once the knife has tasted first blood...I just hope it's animal lol.

I am supposed to being going to check out the Amazon next year I hope your friend has a great trip

Thanks a lot for your comments and support, we can all benefit from more of that. Good luck to you on your journey. I doubt I'll ever make it down that way, but I'll do my damndest to outfit anyone headed into dangerous territory with a tool they can rely on.
