survival knife

The best you'll get is a Chris Reeve Moutaineer knife. It's $200, but the difference between this knife and all other hollow handled knives, is that it is machined from a solid billet of steel, making it amazingly strong. It's a great survival blade that is stronger than most other knives.

CR makes the best hollow handle around!! I meant the one piece knife!!

Did anyone mention the Chris Reeve 1 piece line yet? LOL

What about that neato RAMBO II? Or, was it the first RAMBO, or, the sixth?

Rob

Chris Reeve knives are ridiculously expensive and totally not worth their weight in formica.

United Cutlery, on the other hand, has very reasonably priced hollow-handled survival knives that will stand the test of time and hold an edge much better than those wannabes from CRK.

JUST KIDDING :D :D :D :p

Chris Reeve's line is the only one that I would trust as far as hollow handled survival knives. They are the only ones that have a hollow tang and aren't just blades with glued on tubes as far as I know, unless you go custom and VERY expensive. Plus, they're not tacky, over the top Ramboesque knives with sawbacks and stupid screwdrivers on the guards.

Cold Steel Bushman. Great blade profile, one piece carbon steel design, can be used as a spear and retails for 1/10th the price of the Chris Reeve knife. It has no buttcap, so if you want to hold supplies in it you'll want to come up with a way to seal the handle. The design lets you put it on the end of a stick for extended versatility.

What do you plan on using said knife for?

mostly going and try to survive for a weekend and maybe some abuse

Really? Buy a normal, quality full tang knife and a good backpack then. Not as macho as a hollow handled survival knife, but this combo will serve you much better. Have a good time surviving, stay safe, don't abuse anyone or anything if it isn't necessary.

not people knives lol

not people knives lol
Not sure what that means, but I second Redguy's recommendation. (Not that I have any experience, mind you.) My question is: Why do you want a hollow-handled knife? Not much you can get in there that you couldn't as easily store elsewhere.

I think he meant, "not people, knives" (answering to "do not abuse anyone").

I am also not sure what purpose the hollow handle would be in a weekend survival. Aren't you taking any backpack or even fannie pack with you, zach225a?

Isn't that the point of a survival knife, to put some survival stuff in the handle just in case something happens and you get seperated from your gear. Better to have it and not need it blah blah blah.....you know the rest.:)

Okay, but what if you lose your knife and everything stored inside the handle? Stuff like that happens. 99% of the hollow handled knives are junk anyway. CRK's stuff are good, but very expensive. Furthermore I think the handle of the one piece line is woefully uncomfortable especially in cold weather. I also don't understand why are they hardened to a mere 56 HRC. A2 can be heat treated up to 60 without losing it's toughness.

I never got the hollow handle idea. If you loose the knife you loose all your entire survival kit. Just buy a good ‘survival’ knife and a small belt-carry pouch. Put your survival kit in there and carry it all the time next to your knife. I always carry some larger survival carry in a small daypack as well(stuff like a poncho, flashlight, Esbit-stove and aluminium pan)

If you really want to stick to the hollow handle knife for survival….carry a small belt pouch next to it;)

Btw: I have seen pictures of gear stuffed away in the handle of a BK7 (which is a good and cheap knife for survival purpose). It wasn’t a lot, just some basics like matches, fishing hooks and water purification tablets.
