Survival Movies... looking for 1 in particular..

I was looking around wally yesterday for some disney survival movies.. 1 in particular that I remember from when I was a kid..

Plot:
The story starts off with a young teenager practicing wilderness survival skills with his little brother and dad in the woods.
Somewhere along the beginning of this movie they adopt a golden retreiver, maybe it was a lab.. not sure..

The story unfolds, and the dad and this teen leave on the dads fisherman boat in a storm to get somewhere, the boy is swept off the boat by a big wave because of a storm that was taken place..

The Teen wakes up on an island washed up with his canoe. and then survives for multiple days before being found by rescue.

DOES ANYONE REMEMBER OR KNOW THE TITLE OF THIS MOVIE????

Suggestions for other survival movies are welcomed.:D
 
When were you a kid? A rough estimate can help. Any guess who acted in it? If you know it was a disney movie, and recall the release date within a few years, you might be able to figure out the title you are looking for. Even better if you can think of an actors name that was in it. just go to the "imdb.com" site, and start looking.
 
I've thought about looking IMDB but nothing showed up.
The only name I can remember was the one of the dog, but even there the memory is vague... I think it was Shadow... if this can help.

The movie is 10 y/o give or take.
 
It was on one of the Movie channels last week, I watched it for like the 10th time, great Movie.

Bump!

Dang! I just saw parts of it briefly when I needed to go home and get something. I usually keep an eye out for survival movies, but this one definitely flew under my radar (made in '95 - '96). Wish they'd air it again soon.

BTW, what folder did the dad give the kid? Looked like a stockman with a saw?

I'll join. I'm not sure if this was a book or a movie but I remember it from school. This kid gets on a small plane to go see his dad. He has this hatchet given to him previously by his father. Well the pilot is having problems and I believe dies of a heart attack and the plane goes down and the kid is stuck on an island for a while. After a bit he swims down to the plane and finds a survival kit with some food, a .22 rifle, and a radio of some sort. Then he is rescued. I'm sure I left alot out but I was thinking of this book/movie recently and couldn't come up with a name.

Hey Jiggy, just a heads up, I believe the movie version of Gary Paulson's "Hatchet" is called "A Cry in the Wild".

I remember reading Hatchet. That was a good one.

Lost in the Barrens is another good survival/adventure novel for children or young adults.
 
shadow was the name of the dof in Homeward bound. What was the one with Dick Van Dyke? Where he was on an island after being shot down?
