Are there any really good survival sit type movies out there?

------------------
It's not the pace of life that concerns me, It's the sudden stop at the end.

Well, in a word...no. Most have overblown Hollyweird junk written into them and do not accurately depict the actual problems of "surviving". Some movies have good parts; Cast Away for instance showing Tom Hanks using a bush for a latrine, gathering water etc. But, come on, your plane hits the water at 150 kts and your not injured? And you retain the "lifeboat" someone hands you? PLEASE!

The few times I've had "situations" in the field were not very entertaining. I think it may be akin to the problems I understand they have with adverture races for TV. Lots and lots of hours of repeatative tasks.
Hunting, gathering, hiking, firebuilding, gathering water. Even condensed it doesn't seem to be very visually entertaining. Just my 2c worth.

Survival is not very exciting thing to watch.

Most of the time the best thing you can do to improve your chances is to sit still and relax, and try to focus enough to think. You have to think because you find yourself in an unfamiliar environment (if its familiar then you are vacationing not surviving) and have to learn how to use or improvise tools to meet your basic requirements. Not exactly the kind of stuff action movies are made of.

Good movies are rare. I would suggest:
1) The Edge
2) Alive
3) K2

Jeremiah Johnson, staring Robert Redford. The best one I've ever seen.Based on the book "Crow killer",The saga of liver-Eating Johnson

If you like funny ones, there's the
Walt Disney movie: "Never Cry Wolf".

A far more serious one: "The Naked Prey"
starring Cornel Wilde
