Survival Options Group, CQB Survival Series Full Titanium

I've used a couple of titanium knives, but haven't been very impressed. They're very light and strong, but it doesn't seem to make a good blade steel. The machining costs for titanium in general seems to kick the price up much more than seems reasonable. I don't know anything about these particular knives, though. But for 300+ you can get yourself a real nice custom... hmmm... I might have to do just that... :)

Welcome to Bladeforums!

I'm not familiar with this company, so I can't comment directly on their knives. I am familiar with Mission Knives, who also make titanium alloy knives. I just checked their website and found it was updated a few days ago, really nice looking job, too.

Their prices are on a level with S.O.G. but they've been around longer and have a greater variety of products. I've got two of their knives myself.

Here's some more comments about Ti that I posted elsewhere a while ago:

titanium alloys used in knives are non-magnetic, so they won't set off certain types of mines, and they are extremely corrosion-resistant, so they are appropriate for use in seawater.

They are effectively unbreakable as well, so this coupled with corrosion resistance, they make excellent dive or rafting knives. Small titanium knives also make excellent backup neck knives, since sweat won't bother them and they are so light you could forget you're wearing one.

Mission says their "beta titanium" knives are harder than other Ti on the market. If the prices seem high at first, compare them to other indestructible combat and survival knives. While steels seem to get and keep a sharper edge, beta titanium is pretty good for general utility and durability. My MPU does fruits, vegetables, and meat. The edge no longer feels sharp, but it slices cleanly, sort of like a used Talonite blade. It sharpens back up easily with a small diamond rod.

I dive a titanium knife, and while it's big and ugly (it's a dive knife!) I often carry it on land as well. It's just sooooooo light. . .

How sharp are you able to get these blades? As I said, I tried a couple of different titaniums, but they didn't come very sharp, and I wasn't able to put much of an edge on them with stones. Admittedly, I like my knives very sharp, but I'd be willing to compromise for such a light and resistant material. I really like some of the small ti neck knives I've seen.
