Survival Photo Trip

After 10 weeks, countless trains, planes, boats, and cabs through 11 different countries, I have finally returned from the Mediterranean. The mission was simple, take pictures of major landmarks and as much urban city life as possible for travel guides, brochures, travel agents, and magazine ads. There were many unique things about this trip to name a few, the idea of taking a picture of a city often means you have to climb a mountain to get the overall shot, or the time I got attacked by a Christmas tree bearing crazy guy in Lisbon, Portugal, in which my arm bled for an hour and I now have about 5 nasty scars from. Learning that even though the weather was bad in Istanbul, I had to get what shots I could. This was not a trip for people who get sea sick as often I would have to take some early boat rides to get those shots at the "Golden Hour" before the sun comes out and washes all the good color out. Sometimes I had only the worst times of the day to get my pictures taken but the show must go on. There was no stranger feeling than being one of the only Americans in the slums of Alexandria, Egypt and trying to not offend anyone, as a camera often could, causing me to get taken away in a van never to be seen again. So I guess this a small story of survival but a good one.

I know I have said this before, but, this was another trip of a lifetime! Here are a few outtakes to share with you all.

Please enjoy the pictures and I will try to keep updating them.

Wow. You got some nice shots there, Reuben. Must have been a pretty fun trip.

I've been in the advertising business for well over thirty years, and for part of that time I worked as a commercial photographer. When I was working as a photographer it was mostly product shots with a 4x5 view camera, and often, while cooped up in the studio doing shots of toilet paper and lawn mowers, I dreamed of doing exactly what you are doing: escaping to the outdoors and traveling. Good job, bro.

Very nice pictures. Must be difficult to get shots without masses of people. Except for Venice the pictures had no people or a few "locals". Egypt pictures with no people. Amazing. Of course I was on a 50 bus tour so you can imagine the crowds I had to deal with.
