Survival school or tapes?

Schools are expensive, and may not be local to you. For tapes, the only way to go is Hoods Woods http://www.survival.com Watch them, practice the skills, rewatch them, etc. They are excellent.

Bravado,

Check out some of the schools further up North from you. There is one in Oregon and a couple in Washington. Check out Greg Davenport's school at www.ssurvival.com He is a real knowledgeable guy. If you want to learn more inexpensively then get some good books and practice what you can. Nothing beats hands-on training from someone though.

I suppose that "live" training would be best BUT Hoods Woods videos are really quite good - the key is to actually PRACTICE what you learn on the tapes.

Get the volumes 1 thru 5 of Hoods "Woodmaster" series (www.survival.com/woodsmaster.htm) and you will have a very good start on developing some real survival skills.

Have Fun!

Agreed if you can't get face-to-face instruction, videos are the only way to go, then books as a back up and reminder/referecne. Many books have horrendous drawings that don;t really accurately show things, and many books just plain have inaccurate information.

With Ron's videos, you see him doing the techniques, often from many angles, and he describes and demonstrates nuances and tricks that aren't in books.

Personal practice, or "dirt time" is the only thing that will gain you skill in the end.

The above schools that were mentioned are great. Also there are some others listed here on the Hoods Woods site:

Best,

Brian.
