Wanted to post this here versus the Wilderness and Survival Forum since it is more a knife question than skill.

Which knife would you want to be carrying if you were in a wilderness survival situation in North America? The Chris Reeve Small Sebenza or the Becker Necker? Why?

Probably the Becker, just because it is a fixed blade. I have a Sebenza, and even though it comes real close to fixed blade when open, in the end it is still a folder. If I were in any survival situation I would want equipment with the least chances of failing, and a folder just has more things that could go wrong than a fixed.

While I would trust my Sebenzas implicitly, I would prefer a fixed blade for survival. I still don't know about the Becker, though. I do not like the look of that bottle opener. I hold my small knives with the butt in the heel of my hand. I don't need that notch cutting into me.

Why - why - why did they have to put that gimmicky little notch there??? In a survival situation, I don't want glass bottles around, and the plastic all have twistoff plastic caps. How about a multitool for bottles and cans and wires, anyway?

I agree with everything Esav said. If the Becker didn't have that bottle opener I'd be giving it serious consideration.

Have both & echo the sentiments of Erikd & fishface5. I always grab my BK11 when out for a family hike.Keep it accessible and carry a good quality folder always

The Becker's ergonomics didn't work for me. A deeper/broader choile and inch more of 'straight' handle would have been perfect. The Sebenza looks like it would feel better in my hand. The Becker would probably be more easily sharpened via a rock.
