or go to the Prepare to Survive Site and sniff them out. The blurb is:

"... the product that evolved was used in the early space program. Eventually, a tablet was perfected and used widely as a emergency food. It came to be known as The Survival Tabs...

The Survival Tabs will keep you alive and moving for months at a time, on the amount you can carry in your backpack. The recommended consumption of 12 tabs per day may be decreased when other foods are available in adequate amounts and quality. Or it may be increased in times of complete starvation or extreme physical exertion...

The Tabs have been produced and packaged to last at least 10 years ... they are so irresistibly good-tasting!

Ingredients: Non-fat dry milk solids, sucrose, vegetable oils (including sunflower and /or safflower oil), calcium phosphate, ascorbic acid, vitamin E Acetate, niacinamide, ferrous fumarate, zinc gluconate, natural and artificial flavours, calcium pantothenate, potassium chloride, manganese gluconate, pyridoxide hydrochloride, riboflavin, thiamin hydrochloride, vitamin A palmitate, vitamin D3, folic acid, potassium iodide, cyanocobalamin

Calories 240, calories from fat 108"

Has anyone come across anything similar and if so, can they tell us about it? I'm tempted to try these out but I'd like to hear the voice of experience first.

thanks!

Boy, I remember those when they were only $25.00. I always wanted to order but haven't yet. I tried most of the others over the years. Maybe I will soon order and test them out. They have been on the market for some time now 10 yrs plus.

P.S. I have tried out the survival bars during training. They are good but break up easily.

I forgot to mention the price is quoted in Australian dollars - US$25 is still a lot cheaper but, unfortunately, not after shipping charges are added. Nuts. But thanks for the tip anyway!

I've used them and they taste OK.
I think you could do better with protein tabs and a vitamin tab from the health food store.<><

The food value is milk solids, sucrose, and oils. The rest are vitamins. "keep you alive and moving for months " , well that's debatable. I am sure you could make up your own supplies that would do better and cheaper.

but I've used the lifeboat rations which taste like dried raw cookie dough... wait, I think it is basically cookie dough baked without the yeast stuff so it does not rise. It was nice and tasty for about three bites and then the flavor became overbearing. I figured that I would take one packet on a two day hike and after eating one portion, I elected to wait till I got back to civilization before eating again.
