Aahhh...old Civil Defense Manuals, you gotta love'em!

I cannot remember where I got this JPG, but I think I put the caption in below it. :D

That guy is from the (awesome)Fallout series of games..Pip Boy!

I'll take under the desk over sitting in the seat if I had the choice...falling roof/debris and all...but if you're too close, it would be like holding a newspaper over your head..

And of course. Leaning against brick walls protects from nuclear fallout ;)

And don't forget to engage the brakes on the tractor when you jump off of it and lie down right in front of the rear tire.

Ahhh that video wins in so many ways.

It's also quite hilarious that the teacher has a drawing of a turtle on the blackboard

When we did the drill in the 60's , I remember my teacher getting upset with me because I was standing by the window. She said , " Why are you not getting under you're desk ? " I said " Because I want to get it over quick ! "
She raised her voice and said " Get under you're desk now ! " I said to her " What's the point? "

On my way to the Principal , I turned and said " Yup , I'd be a lot safer there !"

I remember those old Civil Defence films; they were still showing them to kids in the 1970's when I was in elementary school. Even at that age we all knew it was a joke; we would be obliterated for certain.
About the only good thing we learned from the duck and cover drill is it was ideal for earthquake survival; nothing could crush those old-school desks!

My history teacher used to joke that it just made body recovery easier if they were all in the same place. I thought it was funny.

what you don't feel safe diving under your school desk:D

and fire drills where you spend gobs of valuable time lining up properly into single file before exiting the building..

reality is only for a moment..

What you all don't know is the government spent billions of dollars in the 60's developing a liner in school desks that virtually negates all the radiation saturation, blast overpressure, heat and fragmentation hazard. Joke's on you!

Duck and cover is equally effective against gunfire. All the gun schools are teaching it now.

you can also take cover under a backpack that's full of sand. the sand will melt and turn into a protective shell on your back, much like a turtle! this is why I always make sure to pack a few dozen pounds with me wherever I go.

Lol, some great responses. My old highschool was built with tunnels connecting the buildings. In the tunnels there was access to the cafeteria and it had water plumbed in. My bio teacher always told us if there was a nuclear blast he would make sure we made it to the tunnels safely and then he was going to sit on the roof because he didn't want to be around for the aftermath.

Well I remember that in case of an air raid we were always thought to stand in a door way. I guess it to see 'em coming or sth

It's all the lead in the paint on the walls. After 8 inches of concrete block, 4 inches of lead-based paint, and 9 inches of Asbestos insulation all you need is a 1/2 inch of plywood, some plastic and some steel.

Since when has the government ever been wrong? I dare you to name one.

Okay, smartass, I dare you to name 100.

See? Aren't as smart as you thought you wuh- ah shut up, Smarty Arty Orange.
