Does anyone know where or who sells tin/aluminum boxes. something about 5-6" long by 3-4" wide by 1-2" deep. Thanks.

There is an aluminum box sold under the Trangia brand that is 3.5" wide x 6.37" long x 2.125" deep. The friction-fit lid is a tight fit. Corners are rounded. A froogle.com search should reveal several vendors.

Yeah, the small Trangia aluminum "tin" is a good one. It will hold at least 2 cups of water for cooking purposes.

Otters and Pelicans are nice boxes, but sometimes metal boxes are preferred because they can be used to boil water or do simple cooking, in a pinch.

Actually I bought a Otter bax awhile back. Haven't used it yet for a survival box. For some reason, I like aluminum boxes for survival kits. Something original about them. I'm looking at one of the Sigg boxes.

Being cheap, I use the emptied Altoid tins, but I always make sure to pull a big section of bicycle tube over them. Seals them well and gives them a little more water resistance.

Take Care,
Jeff

Altoids makes a tin that is in that range and it's full of their mints.:D
Bingo. I have that big tin.

But you usually only see the big ones out in stores around Xmas.

I just got my SWISS/SIGG aluminum box today, this will hold a lot of gear. It will make a really great kit. The quality of the box with the latches and gasket in the lid is all good to go. Some my find it too big of a box, I have the smaller of the two.

Those are great links. Ray Mears, the British survival expert, recommended a box similar to the Sigg one. Good to see they're available in the USA.

Another possibility from the Garrett Wade catalog(and less than $20 USD)

and if you want a different form factor--5.25 inches diameter and 2 inches deep, also from Wade:

My team and I were in Vegas for an exercise and discovered that Davidoff Tobacco is re-issuing pipe tobacco in the tins that "Lofty" used to reccommend in his SAS classes. The coolest thing about the new ones is that they have a silicone gasket around the lid so if you press them down they seal airtight. Works even better if you can convince your SCUBA locker (or local dive store) to stick them in a pressurized vessel (like the ones used to test depth gauges) and press it to 1 ATM. Then all you have to do is look at it and you know if the seal has been broken. You can also polish the inside of the lid to use as a signal mirror.

They're the perfect size to carry in your uniform or fanny pack.

If you can't get them from your local cigar shop, get on the Davidoff website and look under pipe tobacco.

Has anybody seen the tins with the roller clips on the sides like the sigg boxes, but these are smaller. I bought one off ebay and the size is 5"X3 1/4"X1 1/8", it has a small tin inside to one side, looks like a small tub. I would like to find more this size. Thanks for any help.
