Some of the rules have fell in place since this first posting: One knife per person, not over 5 inches blade length, no knife with any feature except one sharp edge (such as no swiss army or multi-tools). No other gear can be used except the clothes on your back and what can be fabricated from the wilds. Participation is limited. All participants will be searched before departing into the location.

Cameras will be allowed but no part of the camera equipment can be used for anything other than photos. Team emergency medical kit will be taken for safety purposes.

Jeff, you've got mail.

Sounds like fun ("A fine and pleasant misery"..Pat McManus).
My Busse #5 and I are good to go.

Wonder if I can sneak in some salt for the cattails? Not to mention some of the less savory "edibles"!

Sorry, no salt allowed, so get use to licking your own sweat
smile.gif
Now if we were in South America we could find the pods of 'salt' ants and season food with them.

No water containers will be taken either so get ready to fire your own pottery if you want to boil and putify water.

The Busse 5 sounds like a winner for this trip. I will be carrying in several knives to pass around and review for magazines. Everyone else is limited to one knife - sorry

Currently we have about 15 people that have expressed serious interest. We will either do a drawing to limit participation or run more than one trip next year, since too many people will be hard to manage. Especially when it comes to food gathering.

Also remember the trip is open to females also. From past experience, they usually kick our 'macho' asses in this type of situation.

Hi Jeff,

Still no news about #13 ?

I would love to come to this trip but flying in from Europe will cost me dearly

You say that Females can participate, Jeff I see a potential problem there as I can't immagine you not allowing any condoms to be taken as personal safety precaution
wink.gif
.
However these can be used as good water containers and even used to boil water in.

I don't expect you to puncture them beforehand when you find them in the "strip search"
biggrin.gif
as this could pose a potential health risk

Jeff, I couldn't keep myself from replying to your last message, man how I would love to be one of the participants even without condoms

Now the question is....do most men keep condoms in their billfold? If so, then would that be considered normal everyday carry items? :) That one's a call for our 'judge' Darryl Patton. Maybe the way to handle this is make a list of each participant and everything they're going in with that they consider normal carry, then post it publicly after the event....do you think any married guys would be bringing condoms?

We taught a survival class to a group of Canadian high school students in Costa Rica this year. When we pulled out a condom to demo survival uses you should have seen the faces on the student's teachers.

Trust me, the females I know that may be along would put someone in their place real quick if a condom was pulled out for anything but water procurement.

I like your signature line....talk about covering your ass after your post :)

Should this venture prove successful, would you consider holding similar outings in other parts of the US? Perhaps the woods of Maine or New Hampshire (hint, hint)?

sounds interesting,is there any kind of age limit? im 17,but VERRRRY interested."what did you do this summer?" "you're not gonna believe this..."

Jeff, I am seriously interested, and so is my wife. We also have a location for a future "Northwoods" trip of the same type, if you are interested.

Please keep us posted.

P.S. I'm Curdog on your forum.

Darryl Patton is putting this whole thing together so forward all questions and comments to him at:

darryl@stalkingthewild.com

Darryl is a true expert at this type of stuff, I'm just along for the kicks and giggles, and maybe write a few articles about the knives used. Might ought to watch me because I have been known to sneak in a few MREs - as the lurkers here well know
smile.gif

Seriously, this is going to be fun, and a true knife only trip, but Darryl is handling all the arrangements and making the guidelines so it's best to forward your comments or questions to him.

Gad, that sounds like fun! Kinda like having your nose hairs ripped out with pliers. Have fun, you guys, and be sure to do a good writeup. I enjoy reading about warm climates when it's -40 up here in Alberta.

Jeff....You are going to be testing some knives.Well if I get to go I will be testing some new types of salt, pepper, butter and a few other things...or they will be for sale at greatly inflated prices...hehehe

All, please check out the latest info on this trip at:

There have already been rumors circulating of this being ill planned and unsafe, so this should address most of that.

One of the main reasons our team went to South America for survival classes is all the bull**** associated with trying to do realistic classes in the United States without all the hassles of spoiled American society. It seems like there's a lawyer on every corner in the US waiting to sue you over something, or either the whole aspect of survival has become so Hollywood that true survival practice has vanished and ended up with a few weekend warriors or armchair quaterbacks.

Bottom line: our team (Randalls Adventure & Training Team) is going to do this thing next July regardless of any other participation.

We're not in this for the glory or financial aspects - we all have regular jobs and make pretty damn good livings. We do feel there are those like us that want real world experiences and wish to test themselves and learn on a constant basis, but if this trip proves to be a disaster due to allowing others along with our team then it will not be repeated.

Hi Jeff,
That sounds fun and as an original idea!
Could you please elaborate on which knives are you planning to take? Just for the benefit of the general audience.....
smile.gif

Thanks,

HM

To be honest....I don't even know yet. My plan is to get some diversity on the types of knives used and do one review on how all of them worked...sort of a survival knife roundup thing. Might even throw some kitchen knives into the mix. As far as my personal knife that will probably depend on what I'm reviewing for the mag at the time.

Jeff.....I think some folks get a little hasty in the judgement area without knowing any details ... And what you are referring too ,I believe , falls into that area.
In my line of work everytime I turn around a damn lawyerscum is looking over my shoulder.
In my younger days I once punched out a lawyer who was my "friend" for betraying me when it came down to brass tacks:It cost me over 10,000 big ones ,20 years ago....If I ever see him again expect a repeat.
People need to stand up and be responisble for themselves . Period . Who do you blame ? Yourself . Who's fault is it ? Mine!...

Rant over:::

Couldn't agree with you more Dude. That's why we like South America so well. Down there you pretty much have to be your own person and take responsibility for you own actions. Not too many internet armchair quaterbacks down there trying to sit in the comfort of their home judging what someone else does.
