See if you can answer this very simple question. Arrange these in order of importance: shelter, food, water, fire. Put these in there order, I'll post there order later. Enjoy.

There is no one answer to this question. Your priorities depend on the situation you are in.

If you are freezing to death then shelter and fire are more improtant than anything else. If you're starving, then food is the most important.

You have to adapt and keep an open mind.

I think this is, typically, the correct order of importance.

1. Shelter
2. Water
3. Fire
4. Food

I say typically, because if I just went through the ice or something, I'd be in a damn hurry to start a fire.

I'd have to agree that the situation makes a difference.

About the ONLY thing I can say for sure is that FOOD is LAST!

If you are in danger of severe weather, I would say it goes:
Shelter, Fire, Water, Food.

If you were COLD AND/OR WET then:
FIRE, Shelter, Water, Food.

If in exteme heat:
Shelter, Water, Fire, Food.

Just my thoughts!

You guys are all right I was just wondering i f anyone else sharred the opinion that the order of importance depends on the situation. I spent a summer as a wilderness guide apprentice on the Alagash water way in Maine and the head guide was stuck with his order. No matter what happened he always did things the same way. Thanks for the replies. Geoff.

Sorry to say this but...Your instructor was a fine example of what "I" call a guide and a Yahoo. he was not an instructor...based on your last comment.
