I recently spent a few days with people interested in survival skills from Ron Hoods “Hoodlum” forum. We were out in a campground comparing knives, and I had several khukuris. Lou Magnabosco wanted to do some comparative chopping. He used my 14 oz. Udhaipur in his test because it was about the same size as the other knives. He thought it wouldn’t be fair to include the heavier khukuris because they would “chop anything in two.” The closest HI production model to my Udhaipur would probably be a 17” Kumar Kobra.

Here is a quote from Lou Magnabosco’s post at http://pub1.ezboard.com/fhoodlumsteamhoodlum.showMessage?topicID=150.topic .

Howard was also able at this time to bring out his knife collection to show off and try out. Howard has a great collection of kukri knives. Some of these I swear are in the five-pound range, and believe me will chop anything in two! We were able to get one of them that was almost the same size/weight as a Busse BM or Anaconda 9. We also had a Steel Heart II and a Special OPS Jungle Machete. We compared all of these knives splitting some of the firewood we had to see if we could decide which did better than the others. I left out the RTAK as I don't feel it is in the same chopping category as the other mentioned knives. While it will also chop and split it is a better brush knife than the others and is almost a full pound lighter. I think that it was finally concluded that the Kukri was a slightly better chopper but not by much. They are interesting knives to use though and for those of you who like knives you should try and get a hold of one to try out if you can. They are truly different knives.
