Survive! Factory 2nds Labeled?

If you take the handle scales off there will be a tiny divot near the pommel. Is that what you mean?

Keep in mind though, that it is a divot and not a hole. The 20-cv blades all have a small hole to distinguish them before laser etching.

I recall Guy saying that they are randomly tested for RC hardness, so that divot is a sign it's passed, not that it's a second.

Excellent point... The Rc divot is teeny and we only just got the tester recently. The divot by the pommel is for the Factory 2nds. I will be sure to bring this up with Guy and we will get a comparison photo done.

That would be great!

Edited to Add:

Is this a "factory 2nd" divot or a Rc divot?

that doesn't look like one of the 2nd divots. They used to have a picture of one on the website under one of the knives (I think on the factory seconds page). From what I remember, it's much more noticeable but as pointed out before, doesn't go all the way through.

Thanks for the picture, that looks drilled, mine looks like it was tapped with something pointy.

Looking forward to an "official" comparison from Survive!...

That is a Factory 2nd divot. The variation comes from humanity. We just make a quick divot with a drill bit and sometimes people get careless about uniformity, especially since this is not functional or readily visible. The Rc tester is more like a needle poke.

Thanks for confirming.

I figured out what is wrong, the bevels on one side aren't as perfect as the other. Great knife regardless...

That little vampire bite is a test for immortality. Only fitting that it shows up as it does.
