First post here, so go easy on me if this has been covered & I missed it ;)

I've fallen for the GSO 4.1 and 3.5 and would like to place a pre-order for one or the other soon, but I can't decide between the Green Canvas Micarta and the OD Green Linen Micarta scales. I'm tracking that the linen has a finer texture, but can't tell from the website pics if the colors are much different.

If you guys have good pics of the two (especially the Linen) I would be forever in your debt!

Any other input regarding Linen vs. Canvas on the GSO series would be appreciated. I only have experience with G10 and Canvas micarta.

Thank you in advance for any and all input! :D

I have black Linen and green canvas... so sadly unhelpful on the color difference, I would say they are both nice though as far as tactile sensation.

I haven't tried the linen micarta from S!K yet, but previous experience with other companies was that linen-micarta, besides being a finer weave, also tended to have a more polished finish than canvas, the result being a prettier but less grippy handle-surface.

I have both, and can get some pictures this weekend. I definitely prefer the green canvas. I think the color and texture is nicer.

Welcome! Very specific question :)

I only have green canvas... and I'm sure some better pics could pop up here from others, but here's what I got.

Also, check out post #226 for an outdoor shot when she was brand new.

The texture of the canvas micarta in these pics and others I've seen has me leaning in that direction.... Gorgeous! Thanks for the response!

This is good info too, and I'm interested in maximum grip as this will most likely become my main hiking / camping blade.

I would appreciate any direct comparison pics you can post!

Man, looking at my pics it looks like my scales are putting the drab in olive drab. I should put some mineral oil on them.

I have this green canvas and also red linen on another knife. I can say the canvas is far from being polished, but it is not aggressive. The linen feels smooth as you run your fingers on it lightly, but if I really press it makes my thumb kind of skip across the surface because the texture makes enough friction... if that makes any sense.

Here are two comparison pictures. The first one in their "natural state" after been used for a while. The other one when they're freshly oiled. The 3.5 is OD green linen micarta, and the 4.1 is green canvas micarta.

Here is green canvas that I sanded lightly with 400 grit. I modified these handles to meet my personal taste.

Not sure if this was covered but I suggest the canvas micarta scales for grip. They are superior to the linen. I think the linen look better but this is a tool not a showcase. You can also buy both and either return the one you don't want or sell it on this forum or on ebay.
