First off, I am a fan of both and have owned or own both brands - So, don't everyone pile on from either camp.

I'm interested to hear and see pics from those who have done some batoning and processed wood with the GSO 10 and the Junglas. I've used both extensively for two hunting/camping seasons.

I already understand the difference between the 1095 of the Junglas and the CPM-3V of the GSO 10 because of statement 1 and 2.

What is everyone's thoughts and comparisons. GSO 10 (and 12) at almost 3 times the price of a Junglas?

We can only speculate about the GSO 12 and personally I'm super close to pulling the trigger on it in the starter.

Now I'd like to hear what everyone thinks.

PICS PLEASE!

I'm going in on the GSO 12 as soon as I can raise the funds.
I loved the GSO 10, but it left something to be desired when it came to chopping. It chopped well, but you could tell that with a few design tweaks, it could be a serious beast.
Guy listened and went back to the drawing board and I couldn't be more stoked about this GSO 12 chopper.

Never had a Junglas, but I've heard they are quite capable for their price point.

Hey Rasco. Long time my friend.

I've batonned more than chopped with both and they do equally well. Before the 10, the Junglas was the only one I had ever used. I split some really large logs and high quantities over time and it never failed me. Still use it today. Then the 10 came along. Same story.

Chopping I would give the 10 the advantage. Seems a little more weight forward in the balance.

I love my junglas, everyone who I let use it love it. I wish it used a little higher quality steel
GSO10 has never endeared itself enough for me to buy one. Mostly because of that finger choil. From what I've read that choil gets in the way of chopping but its a excellent batoner.
GSO12? Well...I'm violently fiddling with my balls in anticipation.

There is also an elephant in the room: production/warranty.
ESEE is you break it, they replace it. They probably have a whole bunch ready-made anyways.
GSO, has a reasonable warranty. Warranties against defects/worksmanship and "unintentional" damage. Which means that last part is more up to their discretion. Though I can't recall ever coming across a disgruntled customer yet. Also, happening to break one means that you'll be waiting for a good while unless you happened to break it while they still had some in stock.

Admittedly, I'm an impatient dude especially when its several hundred worth of product not in my hand and no set date that I'll be getting it. It's why I don't venture into the small production/custom market very much unless I really want a specific blade.

Unless you throw it
"ESEE KNIVES ARE NOT THROWING KNIVES! They are hardened to a higher Rockwell than throwing knives and will most likely break if thrown, possibly harming the user. So, do yourself and your ESEE knife a favor and DO NOT throw it. Using any knife not meant to be thrown as a throwing knife is idiotic! We would rather idiots not buy our knives."

"We do not warranty against rust or normal wear and tear. Our carbon steel knives are made from 1095 High Carbon Steel. And while 1095 is a top choice for professional field knives, it will rust and stain if not properly cared for - especially on the cutting edge and around the laser engraving. It is the user's responsibility to keep the blades properly lubricated and cleaned."

Survive! Warranty:
"All SURVIVE! knives are warranted for life against defects in materials and workmanship. Additionally, if your knife should ever suffer significant unintentional damage, we will replace it with a comparable model for only the cost of shipping and handling.

SURVIVE! knives are designed for use as a cutting tool, built using premium materials, to provide many years of reliable service. Use of a SURVIVE! knife for any purpose other than cutting is considered abuse, which is not covered by our lifetime warranty. SURVIVE! knives, like any tool, can eventually wear out. Keep your SURVIVE! knife well maintained for best performance and optimum service life. Blade coatings and factory sheath systems are not covered by our lifetime warranty.

Knives damaged due to abuse/neglect will be handled on an individual basis and will be repaired or replaced, at our discretion, for a reasonable rate. Please contact WorkShop@SurviveKnives.comfor all warranty, service or repair inquiries."

Nice quotes B34ns. The cow has a valid point as well. I really don't think there is any question of warranty on the Esee or GSO's. Esee's warranty is legendary. Guy has developed a reputation as a stand up guy who stands behind what he builds.
Then again, the thread was about the virtues of both when price is considered. Warranty appears about the same, although worded differently.

There is something on the warranty that was not mentioned. S!K's and many others offer a "lifetime" warranty. Is that my lifetime or the life of the knife? That is a legitimate point.

Esee makes it clear. FOREVER warranty. IIRC I've never seen any other brand that guarantees their knives 'forever'. Nice to know my grandson could get it fixed or replaced long after I'm gone.

I have never thought of warranty while using my knives, and I've beat the hell out of some of them. Simple really. Use the right knife (or tool) for the job. 90% of guys will never use a knife hard enough to worry about the warranty. But, to cows point, if I break my Junglas, I can have a new one at the front door in a couple weeks. Not so on the GSO 10. For that matter, I could buy a new Junglas and have it delivered overnight, have it the next day, and sell the replacement when it comes in. You can't do that either with the GSO 10.

Totally agree, I was just thinking if my GSO 10 breaks and there aren't any in stock, I might be able to get an off the shelf gso 12 instead ;)

Don't really need to mention this, but I'm going to.

If you are going to buy based off of warranty alone, Busse's warranty is unmatched. It's forever. It covers anything as long as you aren't trying to destroy the knife on purpose. They ask you to beat on their knives in fact.

As long as you weren't doing something intended to damage your knife, you are good.

All Busse Knife Group blades are guaranteed for life against any and all unintentional MAJOR damage. Your knife will either be repaired or replaced at our discretion.

Please note that aftermarket modifications done to your knife outside of our shop that cause your knife to fail may void your warranty.

Busse Knife Group encourages extreme usage of our blades as they are without question "The Toughest Knives in the World". We have no rivals. You can use a Busse Knife Group blade as hard as you like and our warranty has you covered.
