Both are made with CPM3V steel, and have similar blade length and shape.

The handle on the Ambush looks more ergonomic to me.

What do you guys think?

SURVIVE! knives GSO 5.0

AMBUSH Knives Alpha

And I'm totally just guessing here, but based on the vast multitude of handle options, and the fact that these knives are sold on DLT Trading, KnivesShipFree and a few others in the MI area, I feel pretty confident guessing that maybe Ambush is a division, or spin-off, or in some way related to Bark River......??

Rasco if I remember correctly ambush is a company licensing bark river to make a few knives for them to their specs. They are not a knife company.

Holy smokes! I was thinking of that too given the handle shape of the Ambush Alpha. Actually, when you look at the photograph, the style of photography is very Bark River.

Yup, I can tell it's a Bark River!!

This is a line of knives conceived and planned by Jason at DLTtrading. He worked with Mike at Bark River to make them.

Jason is one of the good guys. He wanted to try his hand at making his own line of knives. He is trying to do things right--right materials, right manufacturing, right sheaths. He asked me if we would be interested in selling them and I jumped on board with nothing more than his vision.

I think they are going to make their way out into dealer hands soon. As of now DLT is the only place to get them.

I am excited to get my hands on them.

As for their website...it is just in its infancy. Believe me, there is a ton that goes on in creating a brand and website. If you go to the Northwoods website, you will see what I mean. No website because I couldn't keep up. It is on my list of stuff to do, but I am more occupied with the business of getting selling and distributing them.

Anyway, that is my take.

Without a doubt, I would take the Survive!Knives GSO5.0

Why? Simply because Bark River's QC and FNF is a hit or a miss while S!K are spot on everytime.

I've owned/sold/used over 100 Bark River over the years. I currently own about 40. I personally haven't had a single issue. I'm not saying others haven't had issues but I haven't had a one.

I've owned 4 Survive knives and sold them all. It's personal preference.

I like my Survive knives and would buy more.
I like my Barkies and would buy more.
Bark River obviously has a lot more models and tons of handle materials.
Ambush is a new design label but made by Bark River (as Derrick explained). I like what I see.
I don't think you could go wrong with either.

It's always best to do your own fact finding search that way you're not colored by our opinions......check Bladeforums own reviews, matter of fact there's a number of recent reviews by an individual that does more than feather sticks and trigger traps......as MajorD pointed out "not saying others haven't had issues" since there has been post alluding to that though I think many are simply second hand references without true knowledge.

To put it another way the Bark River Brand builds 40 plus different styles, build 10 plus designs for BlackJack Knives and the fixed blade knives for the Scagel brand so if it was truly an issue don't you think the forums would be swarming with chatter,

I'll be picking up an ambush myself, that said, I have three survive knives and I love them. I have a dozen bark rivers, if you get a good grind they are great.
The ones that came lackluster needed a good amount of time on the strop and they were fine.
But it really comes down to availability. So the answer is Ambush. You can buy one right after reading this post. Not so with survive.
My survives were the hardest knives for me to get.

Here is my Ambush. I have not used it so I really have no opinion yet. I typically prefer a smooth handle but I stepped out of my personal comfort zone and tried the sculpted handle. All I can say is it's a different feel. It's absolutely locks into your hand for hard use but without giving it any actual sustained field use I can't give an opinion. The sculpted handle feel a bit more squared off than the typical rounded edge contours of Bark River. It's very comfortable but it's just a different feel. This one came laser sharp out of the box!
