Survive! Knives Factory 2nds Question

Hello, I am new to Survive! Knives and had a question about the Factory 2nds they sell.

Are the only difference between the factory 1sts and Factory 2nds purely cosmetic? Is their any difference in form and function between them?

Any knowledge or advice from people who have experience with them would be very welcome and appreciated.

I am a former blade collector who recently sold off a little less than half my collection after vowing only to keep my true "users", it was somewhat painful but I realized that practicality of it instead of having just dust collectors on my knife rack.

After purging my collection I had one spot open for a medium size blade that I wanted in a "super steel" for hard use tasks. Initially I saved up and looked at waiting for Cold Steel's upcoming 3V SRK or their AK47 Field Knife.

Then I came upon Survive! Knives, initially hesitant because of it's association with long wait times I quickly became enamored with their design and universally lauded praise from users. Looking at the GSO 5.1 specifically and even though they are a bit over budget for me I decided to treat myself since this will be my last knife for a while.

So while the "collector" in me wants a 1st as long as they are the same in form and function I will be happy with a 2nd, even a little savings would be very welcome. Also I learned that the prettier the knife is the more I don't want to mar it so as long as the difference is only cosmetic I think it would actually be better for me as I would be more inclined to use it then baby it which is a bad habit I had with some of my prettier blades in the past.

Thank you all for your time and future advice and input.

The seconds are merely cosmetic, and barely noticable at that. I only have one second, a GSO 5, and I cannot find the flaw. 3V begs to be used, so the GSO seconds make for an extreme value in my opinion. The only flaws I have seen posted here are minor finish bemishes that one has to look very hard to notice. Fuctionally, these knives are no different than firsts.

SURVIVE! has super high standards and would not sell anything that could fail you. Seconds are just as tough as firsts. I have two seconds and one has very small scratches or nicks on the side of the blade (only visible in certain light) and the other has slightly mismatched bevels.

I'm glad you found SURVIVE! Knives. Happy hunting!

My factory second 5.1 is steal a beast. Only thing I found was a very slightly off bevel on one side. I've beat on it enough to say they're just as tough. I believe Guy said they are just the "ugly Bettie's" still just as good for a user.

+1 to what everyone else said. Purely cosmetic. I've had some seconds that had obvious surface scratches (no gouges) on the blade and others that my inexperienced eye couldn't even find. I think a lot of what they call "seconds" would probably pass as first from other major manufacturers.

I absolutely agree with this. I've never seen a second that I couldn't see being "within tolerances" and being sold as a perfectly acceptable full price knife sold by any production company.

Also, AmericanAs, I hope you had a great day on Monday :D
