Anyone else having problems contacting them? Last response I got was back in December when I was informed my knife will be done in January, I've sent several emails for an update and never got a response back. I checked their website and even the website is not up to date.

Thanks for the link, the page though doesn't explain why they aren't responding to emails or updating their page.

I can tell you that I had a fantastic conversation with Guy yesterday at SHOT Show. He is here in Vegas and may just be away from his computer.

Off topic a bit, he is one of the genuinely nicest guys you could meet. I came away not only more impressed, but more excited about Survive! Knives. He has some SUPER cool things in the works.

I would imagine that most of his current customers are hoping that by "super cool things in the works" you mean "Guy sending them what they already paid for".

There are some on here that have had good luck with Guy's customer service... I am not one of them and am not alone. Sometimes they ignore/don't check emails. Once someone got back to me 3 and half weeks later. Calls have gone unanswered. You won't hear too many bad things about their knives but you will about their customer service and unrealistic ship dates. But since you have a GSO-10 you already know all about unrealistic ship dates, right? The reason you can't reach them right now in particular is Guy is busy at SHOT showing off the new stuff he's been working on for 2014... I think there are more than a few that wish he was as busy working on the things from 2013. Maybe someone can correct me but I thought all GSO-10 orders were to be out by the time they went to SHOT show.

Woah, I think people need to take one big, huge, step back... and realize he is in Vegas.. its a hectic time for him and there was even an announcement that went out saying nobody will be at the office until after Jan. 20..... meaning no knives will be shipped out before that time..

This is a small company, I have a feeling you guys are used to the luxury of 24/7 service such as benchmade, SOG, ect..ect.. in comparison survive knives is "nothing" .. but a speck on a very large map... you cannot honestly expect him to answer hundreds of e-mail per day... if you want that type of service... or the type of service where your knife is sent to you the same day you order it... call up another .. actually large.... company.. and not one that just started up 2 years ago..

At the end of the day, if you value his knives... you won't mind how long they take to get to you.... not only that.. but if you are impatient by nature, then get it 2nd hand from some1 here on the forums... you'll have it within 2-3 days!... lastly, Im not defending him... nor am I a fanboy... but as the end of the day I am a realistic person, in knowing how businesses work... and the only way to realistically make his business grow is by doing exactly what he is currently doing...

Focusing on the few that have ordered from him alone isn't going to help... he's got your money, so he needs to prioritize getting his line up out there... who knows how many knives he'll sell just from showing them off at shot-show.. ;)

Later bois!! and goodluck getting those knives your waiting on.

Guy has communicated through various channels that he would be at SHOT this week. He had sent me an email on January 7 regarding GSO-10 production updates, and this is also on his website. I do know that some of the 10s have shipped to a few. Unfortunately yours and mine have not. I expect more shipping notices will go out upon Guy's return next week.

Maybe I'm in the minority but I expect Survive! to answer all their emails... at least in a few days. If you can take money from that many people for pre-paid knives you should have the decency to respond to their questions. Don't have time to answer emails? Hire help. Don't have time to get product out to your customers in said time-frame? Stop working on new products and start grinding. Growing too fast? Limit your orders. What frustrates me the most is that Guy must be aware of some of these complaints but does not have the time to be bothered to address them. He used to come on BF... this is one of the places he got his start.

This. Other custom knife makers close their order lists all the time. Or are straight up with people. An example: if you want a Randall, it's going to be a four year wait. Get ready for it. Guy needs to stop reaching for new business when he's leaving current business unfulfilled.

I have no dog in this fight. I do understand people's frustrations though. I too have been there. I'm no Fanboy per se, I literally just met him and was impressed with how nice, approachable, and sincere he seemed. One of the things we did talk about is just this topic. Guy is expanding. HUGELY. He recently bought a new building and new equipment. He did it for his customers. Look for his production to go up very soon. Stick with Survive!. They are a very young, American company that is experiencing PHENOMINAL growth. He is buying buildings and equipment to address these concerns. I know it's frustrating when you are waiting for a product. Try to keep in mind that you are getting an all hand made knife, where everything is made in house. They even make their own screws from bar stock. His failure rate is less than 1% on his product. I know I sound like his PR person, and so I will stop. I'm just saying, order an Emerson. IF you can even get in, you're looking at a 2 year wait.

Unless I am mistaken you have a few things wrong in your post... Guy is expanding because he has to so he can make more money, which is what you are trying to do when owning a business BTW. But don't make it sound like he's doing his customers a favor... He would help his customers by finishing up long overdue products. Secondly, since when is a Survive! blade completely hand-made? Blades are water-jetted (not on site), handles are machined (not on site), heat-treat is sent out to Peter's and sheaths are made by another maker. Survive! blades can garner a lot of praise but completely hand-made in house is not one of them.

In the other thread cited above, I was probably one of Guy's largest critics regarding communication failures. But I do agree with everything that Vegas Blade has said. For me, I can forgive delays because of supplier x,y or z. Or challenges due to the particular nature of this knife. I am cool with all of that. What I really want is for Survive to Survive. And I pointed these things out in the other thread as a constructive criticism hoping that Guy still visited BF from time to time. I do not see a requirement for radical change in what he does, just tweak the customer service and communication a bit. Also, if realistically it is going to require 5 to 6 months to get a preorder out, than state 7 to 8 in the beginning. When your customers receive it 2 months before they expected, they will be ecstatic and will be singing Guy's praises on this forum.

If you're tired of waiting, cancel your order and stop whining. If you're willing to wait for the knife, stop complaining about the wait on every SURVIVE! thread that comes up. Its just that simple. Its going to take as long as it's going to take...

Guy is a good dude who produces great products.A solution that pops in my head would be to not charge customers credit cards until the knives actually ship to the end purchaser.I think this would create less resentments with the customer base.I have enjoyed Survive products since they launched and think they produce a quality product.I personally don't like to have my money tied up and nothing in hand to show for my hard earned money and all the time it took me to earn it......

I thought it would be obvious from the many who have the same problem that the company owner doesn't care enough to respond or fix the problem.

I agree that this will likely remove a lot of the animosity. However, being the new kid on the block, Guy was offering some really good discounts to his preorder customers. He got the use of my money interest free, and I got a great deal on the knife. This policy will have to change to make this work.

Gentlemen, there are possible improvements in SURVIVE's business model. That's up to Guy to see to. Don't get annoyed with each other. Some people legitimately come here to gripe to relieve the frustration of waiting. Maybe SURVIVE will remember to check his customer base and these complaints and suggestions will show him the way.

Well, the GSO-10 was a pre-order.
Guy has stated through various channels that he has no intentions of doing another pre-order ever again due to the griping/complaining from folks who expected his estimated time-frames to match reality despite his warning that they would not. Should he have given those estimations in the first place? Busse fans are familiar with the phrase, "Two weeks!" which has NO correspondence to reality at all but fans keep ordering in Ganzas and the like. They don't mind waiting for what they know is coming, but if they need a refund they will get it.

So if you dislike Guy's pre-orders, or aren't sure that the investment is worth it (i.e. paying for an asset which may accrue significant value before maturation), don't worry you won't even be tempted to participate in another. That misery of paying less and waiting long will be over. It may be that sometime in the near future Guy will no longer sell through his website but only through dealers as so many other companies do. Then you can blame the dealer.

It's a small company. If your first couple e-mails go unanswered, CALL them. It's worth it, will save you the heart ache of not getting an immediate answer to e-mails. But wait until after MLK-day, 'cause no one is at the phones just now ;)
