Was going to ask if anyone knew when the next batch of GSO 4.1's were coming out but just had a reply from Guy. More should be ready in the next few weeks. Can't wait to order one, these look like great knives.

If anyone has any photos/reviews they can post of their experiences with a GSO 4.1, especially after extended use, I'd love to see/hear them. Also any comparison photos with Fallkniven F1/S1 would be great.

I took my 4.1 in M390 on a wild pig hunt in Colorado this summer. Used it for everything from gutting pigs to batoning campfire wood. LOVED the knife. It took a beating and still looked new. After batoning through enough wood to make kindling, I shaved a fizz stick and used the back of the knife to strike sparks off my ferro rod. The edge would still slice paper. The knife still looked brand new when I was done. I now own several Survive! Knives.

My buddy who was with me, after seeing my handy work, HAD to have one. They are fantastic knives, can't say enough good about them.

Do you find the blade length to be adequate? I'm torn between the 4.1 and the 5.0 for general bushcraft/survival/camp use.

I posted a review of the GSO-4.1 a while back: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...comparison-to-BRKT-Bravo-1-amp-Swamp-Rat-HRLM
Lots of videos embedded in there as well.

Between the GSO-4.1 and GSO-5 or 5.1, I'd up-size to the 5. The longer blade length provides better reach for any batonning, and the longer/wider handle is much more comfortable (though still a bit too straight for maximum comfort, but getting really close). The GSO-4.1 handle felt better suited for children or women. Also, the new 5 and 5.1 feature improved cutting geometry, enhancing slicing performance :thumbup: The advantages of the 4.1 are its lighter weight (skeletonized tang) and smaller profile.

There is also a new one coming out soon...about 3.5" blade in 3v or 20CV. Nice. About 1/8" thick blade, and 0.015 behind the edge, according to Guy.
Ready by Xmas.

Here is a review on youtube I made on vacation in Sweden. Just a little bit batonning.

And here are some pictures how I dyed the handles of the GSo 4.1 (name Ruudr)

I've used the knive extensively and it held up great. The CPM-3V steel is awsome. The only thing is that a Dutch forum member put a 30 degree angle inclusive on the knife. Now it bites more into the wood.

Overall I would rate the nife a 10 out of 10!

Just to chime in a sec, we are also going to be reducing the thickness of the edges on future GSO-4.1 runs, including the ones that are finishing up in a few weeks.

Will both 3V and 20CV be offered on the 15th? Or just 3V? I just read a facebook post that stated:

"Next up we have the latest batch of GSO-4.1s in CPM-3V. The batch after these you'll begin seeing this knife offered in CPM-20CV as well."

When is the "batch after these"?

What was the measurement of the shoulder on the old design vs the measurement of the shoulder on the new design?

Personally, I like edges as thin as possible, as long as it can withstand what I would call "light" batoning.

I got the 4.1 for hunting as it is the perfect length for gutting/skinning/field work. For camping/bushcraft/survival, I would go with the longer blade. If I could afford another Survive! knife, I would get the 5.1 or the 6 for camping.

Jim Ankerson measured one out to be .035" to .040" behind the edge in his review.

Man I'm consistently off timing with the 4/4.1s. When I reeeelly want one there are none available. I was just a c-h late for the last M390 preorder. When they are available something else I've been eyeing for a while pops up! They're all great knives which I'm happy with though...Strider FBs, SYKCO, Fiddleback, Boye, TFK, ect. I should mention that personally I'm only interested in Stainless steel with black or green handles. I WILL have one sooner or later but I've kinda given up on "planning" for it!

I've had a couple of 4.5"+ bladed FBs and they just end up in the drawer and eventually sold/traded. The Fiddleback Forge knife I recently bought (CPM154) is possibly the overall best performing knife I've ever owned but with a 4.5" blade, the carry size is a tad cumbersome. It's a FANTASTIC kitchen/utility knife and I'd gladly put it in that role but my live-in girlfriend has next to zero respect for knives and consistently leaves them mucky & cuts against inappropriate materials. A FB carry blade at 4" really hits the nail on the head for me, thus the only GSO I'm interested in is the 4.1.

I'm always stoked when a GSO thread pops up!

See my comments on the handles of a TOPS knife on the same page as this.
A rugged , practical knife ,nothing fancy. The 3V steel is a really good one and handle shape and size are excellent for me . Took apart a deer with it last month ,my first use .It was very satisfactory !!

If I have read the Survive Knives website correctly, this knife should be available in a week's time. Have I got that correct?
