I pre ordered a starter GSO 7/7. This wait time is way to long. I do not believe any knife is worth over a year long wait. :(

You must've thought so at one point.

I wish people would read other threads or use the search function if these people are going to trickle in every once in a while with their brand new username bringing only negativity and complaints.

Sorry man. The wait is long, but there was wording all over the place that there was no guaranteed delivery date. The starter was for raising funds for the company rather than getting your order right away and that's how it was advertised.

I hear Survive! knives are great and worth the wait and I never heard of anyone being disappointed with one but if you want instant gratification I suggest you look into a production knife from a reputable company that vendors always have in stock. The GSO series looks amazing but the wait time is not for me so I am patiently waiting and saving for something I will only have to wait a week to get instead of months to years.

SURVIVE's new business model will help with those who just can't wait and I'm really excited for all the great things going on with the company now.

If you agree to pay upfront for a preorder with clearly defined terms, that is another story...

There were warnings and caveats plastered everywhere for the Starter knives, definitely not S!K's fault. Welcome to the forums.

I can't believe somebody would pay over 200 dollars with such haste that they overlooked the warnings and disclosure. I discovered survive! Two days before the preorder was scheduled to end, and put down the preorder for a 7/7. But I was well aware of the wait. If you so quickly confirm payment before you read or are clear of what you're doing that is your own fault imo. I'm not meaning this to be disrespectful, it just irks me that it's becoming more common to see people complain about something that was made VERY clear.

I'm at 6 months wait time for my GSO 4.5 bushcraft and forget about it for lengths of time... one day it will show up and I'll be like YEEEEAAAYAAHHHHH!

No doubt SURVIVE clearly says there is no guaranteed delivery date. I think what throws people is the mentioning of " it typically takes 3-6 months for all the materials to be produced after production starts". Before I made a previous post, I didn't know it is a three person outfit. I knew they were small but not that small. Who checks on how many employees a company has? When I ordered my GSO 5.1 in April 2015 I was under the impression that production started in May. After waiting 9 months after production started including a month past the missed Christmas delivery date there was concern. Especially when there was no email reply. Maybe I was wrong on when production started. Meanwhile I have received my GSO 5.1 and it IS superb. Probably the most perfect knife I own, including BUSSE and BUSSEKIN, Dozier, Randall, Blind Horse, Bark River, etc... The sheath and even the box presentation are first rate. I have since had communication with Ellie on this forum. All is cool. They are great people and I wish them the best of luck. I fully support small business and all good US knife makers. That is why I participated in the Starter Campaign. Now that SURVIVE has grown and has a huge demand for their knives I hope that they can afford a person to help with Emails. It is VERY important to get back to people within a week or two. The product is great. You WILL NOT find a higher quality knife for the price.

Dude! I know I probably speak for all of us on the forum and hopefully Guy and Ellie and Christian when I say THANKS for coming back here and following up on your experience. I am very happy that in the end you are pleased with your knife. Wait till you start putting it to use. It will be that much better. I hope you continue to support Survive! And even more, I hope you stick around our forum and share lots of pics and stories of your adventures and use of your new blade.

And im totally not trying to be that guy, but would you not agree that we were right about the final product?

For anyone else reading this... Trust me when I say they are working on finding a way to handle the massive amounts of email. The crew is well aware of the two or three things they need to improve upon.

TKW, I think that is a very fair assessment, and appreciate your perspective (and you sharing it with us). I wanted to write a long-winded response, but I think i have done enough of that on this topic :P. At the end of the day none of us are perfect, as long as we strive to do better, things will get better. I know controlled metered growth is important to survive and hopefully as it makes sense, they will be able to find the pieces they need to take some stress off of all of them.

haha you beat me to it...this is what happens when you type out the long winded response/delete it/try again...Riz beats you to the punch... haha

Ha! I know there's the usual bursts of frustration expressed, but your statement kind of puts things in perspective. Nobody ever says:

-the knife is good, but the sheath is junk
-good design but cheap materials
-uncomfortable handle
-blade needed to be reprofiled
-I broke mine batoning

As I mentioned earlier, the WHOLE package is superb! You have to understand though, that I have never paid up front for a knife before. When I didn't get a response after my email and voicemail, I was concerned. I knew from the you tube videos that these knives were first class. I think if I wasn't 60+yrs old I may have been more patient and trusting-lol...After reading ALL the responses from current owners and receiving my 5.1 I see why there is such loyalty. However, waiting that long for a knife isn't for everyone. I must say though, they are soooo hard to get, you can't wait for them to come up for regular ordering because they will be gone.

10 months from the day it was ordered to the delivery date. My issue was never with the wait time but with the constant updates of "next week" & "by the holidays" , "first week in January". If Survive would have just stuck to thier guns on the "No guaranteed delivery date" all would have been fine. For the first 6 months I had forgoten I placed the order until I read that they could be shipping soon. All in all I placed the order based on what I read about how the pre-order would help a small made in the USA company get the needed equipment to get these great knives out. Hopefuly my 2 purchases helped to cut down on someone elses wait time on the next batch.

I hear this  My initial investment in Survive! a few years back installed my confidence in Guy, I love what he is trying to do, he just has to knock-off the, "Soon! It'll be in your hands soon!" :p I stopped listening/reading those assertions when I pre-ordered my older GSO-5.1. If you read them, it's like listening to the news - it just gets you riled up with no catharsis!!! I can wait for my Busses/Swamp Rats without updates on when they'll be in my hands, I can wait for my Survive! knives, but other people haven't been on to them as long and can't handle the unfulfilled optimism.

Survive! Knives builds virtue - good things come to those who wait :)
