Ordered my ratmandu about the same time as my edc-4 from survive knives. and am still waiting on the RMD. I own several busse' and scrapyards but am seriously becoming disgusted with the lack of communication and production from swamprat! I know they gave some apologies on the forums saying that their primary focus is the military.

On the other hand, my edc-4 has quickly became one of my most used blades (retiring my esee4 and f1)

And the gso-7 is my most anticipated blade design and materials in quite a long time! (possibly retiring my a1 and esee 6)

but! how does the gso-5 stack up to the ratmandu? i know that peters treated 3v and busse sr101 are in the same ball park.

SR101 and Peters 3V I wouldnt put in the same ballpark. I would put that 3V in INFIs class. I think they will both last you a lifetime of hard use. I personally like the drop point on the 5 more than the clip on the RMD.

I have no experience with the Rat or SR101 so take that into consideration. I have a 4 in 3V a 5.1 in Elmax and they have given me great service. It will cost you a bit more to go with Survive but his products are excellent quality, he's offering top quality steels, Guy is very responsive to inquiries, his current sheaths are made by another forum member(Kiah) and it's a little fun to help get a new company off the ground.

And there's the only downside I really see. Guy is just starting out and I'm sure we all hope he takes off and gets a foot hold in the industry but stuff happens. There is always the chance that Survive might not and then you have no warranty, if that's a concern.

I have that Ratmandu, but no 5.1, I do have several blades in 3V though. As far as a comparison between the steels, neither are stainless, but 3V will definitely be more resistant to corrosion. 3V will also be tougher and hold an edge longer, while SR101(52100) will be easier to sharpen. Both good steels.
