hey yall, there's plenty of threads about what is in your EDC but what about what you've left out? or retired?

I'm talking about the items that came into your EDC for some durration before you stopped carrying it, either deciding it wasn't all that useful or that you just didn't like it. Also, what knives have been prematurely retired from your EDC rotation and why?

I've removed my tiny book from my EDC, I would carry it in my back pocket. it was a handy thing to have for taking notes and making reminders, but one day I noticed that I had only two notes in there and like, 40 pages of doodles and jibberish. so I retired it. but I've been considering revisiting it as part of my EDC

the nirk Novo was a knife I carried a couple times right when I got it, but where most knives last close to a year in the rotation (at the least) before I retire it, the Novo lasted maybe a month. it just got dull WAY too fast, which is a shame because out of the box it was sharp as sin. also it had an irritatingly stiff deployment

My old native I carried for over 6 years before I retired it. The tip was rounded out and I never really liked the lock.

I carried by mini manix for around 4 years. It was a good knife, but the cutting edge was too small for my liking for a knife of this heft. I use that knife daily in the factory and it also probably cleaned 500 geese and maybe twice as many ducks. I ended up selling it for most of what I payed for.

Used to carry a LM Wave and at least 3 knives, after taking a good look at it, I decided all of it just wasn't needed for EDC.

Would keep a bronze hammer of Thor in my coin pocket or years, good luck from my father. Took some time to break that habit, it's in my safe now.

I tried carrying a life straw water filter in my pocket for a month. But it wasn't working out. I tried carrying it around my neck too. Revisiting this, my bear spray came with a cheapo neoprene belt sheath that might fit it. I haven't taken much away really, it just keeps adding. Sometimes what I add is just a better version. I also carried chap stick on me for a month. But it kept melting in my pocket and I didn't use it anyway. I use petroleum jelly to lube threads on my containers but so far I have not found a way to carry that.

I have abandoned my mini-grip in favor of slightly larger knives. Otherwise I carry more stuff for EDC these days than ever before. I need bigger pockets, sometimes it is a challenge to fit everything into my tight jeans pockets.

I've discovered that my edc comes in tiers.

Tier one would be always with me when I leave the house: Phone (which doubles as wallet) and keys.

Tier Two: knife, multi took and/or flashlight

Tier Three: Firearm

And Tier Four: EDC bag (aka iPad bag)

Where I'm going and what I am doing dictates which of these I take. For example today I have 1&2, because im working a photoshoot, it I wasn't I'd probably be 1-3. 1-4 normally happens if I'm goin to be out all day, or traveling/road tripping.
