Well here in Iowa we had a major storm last Sat. Knocked out most of the power. Ice broke the main lines and polls. Governor declared most of us disaster areas. We just got a generator yesterday. Nice to have some power. We rationed food but had water. Was total chaos trying to get in town and find a gas station with power. Lines were long. I'm glad that we had plenty of flashlights and batteries ect. Nice to be prepared when this kinda stuff happens. We were able to take supplies to some elderly neighbors and at least warm there houses up with the generator on the truck. my best advice to everyone is that it is better to have it then need it and not be there. I thank God for my LED headlamps.

Good advice trentu! Hope it works out for you and the power is back online soon.
When the Gov declares a disaster area, is that when your National Guard gets called out or FEMA gets into it?

Sorry for the dumb question but I'm not too familiar with how things work in the US.

Good luck to you!

Survival Classes are no longer for the "Weekend Warrior" or the Extreme Hiker..

Tsunami's, eathquakes, hurricanes, and severe Winter weather all can reduce us to a basic survival state..

Glad to hear everybody is OK, stay warm bro! Nice work being prepared..

Glad to hear you are okay

It shows alot that while rationing yourself you aided others.

I hope everything gets back to normal for you soon. the folks around you are lucky you are there.

Thanks all!! We are starting to get the generator scammers. They are selling generic China made ones with no labels and pushing them off for good ones at a higher wattage. Average price is $900 for a 3000watt one. Also broken gas cans that leak.

Yeesh. It pisses me off to see lowlifes making a profit of others misery.
The best way to avoid it is to be prepared yourself, looks like you were better off then most trentu, but I bet you are thinking you could have been even better prepared.
Even when the power went out for a few hours last month I felt a bit helpless when my apartment started to cool down and I had no food in the house, and just a few tea lights.
Good work with your preparedness and good deeds!
