Hi Dan,

I'm currently considering picking up a Survivor from KSF and have a few questions.

1. I noticed there are 2 lanyard holes. What is the purpose of these? Did you envision specific lanyard configurations, and if so, what would they be?

2. What is the purpoese of the finger hole? Is it an improvement over the traditional hilt/choil combination used on Bowie type knives?

3. How does the A2 blade at 59 rockwell hardness hold up to sustained chopping of hardwood? The reason I ask is that according to my understanding, knives used for chopping tend to use softer steel to avoid chipping.

Thanks in advance.

This is funny. I was just looking at that knife and came here and did a search . Here I find two other people looking at it.

No answer yet. I suppose Dan is pretty busy making knives atm.

There's 5 left at KSF, so I suppose I should pick one up for $250.00 and check it out first hand.

I have one of his Bushcrafters, and it's a pretty amazing, well made knife.

I had a Survivor for a while.
1st) is not an easy knife to manage. It's able to chop like hell, also you calf: use caution and your brain.
2nd) the purpose of the front hole is for the safety lanyard: this must be tight enough to avoid to lose the big beast while chopping (cuttin your calf again!). Use a safe grip.
3rd) IMHO the tip is too thin and easy, ver easy to bend.
4th) I sold the Survivor and bought a Monster Nessie.
5th) The M-Nessie is still here, abused but still a great knife.
