Ok guys - here's the test blank from the waterjet guy (had him do a quickie in mild steel)

And here are some "in-hand" pics:

This is Tom Krein's hand and he wears an XL glove. ;)

As you can see...AMPLE room on the handle for various grips. :D

questions?

Dan

Nice Dan! No questions, just glad I got in on this order. Looks like it's going to be a hoss!

That's going to be a real beast! Are you making that in 5160 or 3V?

These are A2, bro!

mapper66 - no kiddin!!!
(wish I had gotten in...dang...gotta work on that...:D)

He punched the tiny drill holes too???

Andy - yes, those are put in via waterjet. I could do it with a template myself, but having him put in 1/8" pilot holes ensures precise placement and consistency across all the blanks. Make sense? Definitely costs more, but worth it.

That is a GREAT looking profile! Way to go. :) Can't wait to see this come together.

Noice!!

How in the heck am I gonna be able to wait 2 more months!??!?!?!?!!!

I made a couple very slight modifications - all of them improvements.

Here's the latest CAD file:

KosterWaterjetSurvivor2.gif

1 = larger radius on the top of the "bell". The prototype was not round enough.

2 = same as above, and I made the inside curve in a way to make it easier to grip (and for me to grind :D)

3 = ring diameter larger. Take a look at the pics...Tom'ss pointer finger was snug inside the ring...too snug for me too. So, I added 0.100" to it and lowered it the same amount. It is still the same thickness as in the photographs above...the drawing just makes it look thinner. Should fit much better now, yet is not overly large.

4 = moved location of the corby pin hole - will look better and perform better...and, again, be easier for me to work on. (since these handles are going to be contoured)

Well....that's about it!

The Waterjet guy says he get them started next week.

Well on our way to getting 'er done!!!!
