Survivorkhuk

I'd want a Chiruwa AK. Because its the easiest to rehandle in a pinch if the handle failed. It is also supposed to be the unbreakable knife! I can't imagine breaking mine, and I've tried. Its mid range weight and length, so I think it would pack in the bag nicely.

You're right though. You can't dig with a leatherman, nor would you want to face a larger animal with one. Not that you'd WANT to face one at all, but if you had to you'd want a khuk for sure!

If i had to choose between the two in a survival type situation (that is to say that I would want to be rescued and hopefully picked up in 1-5 days) then I would take a Leatherman, or a SAK, or even a Gerber tool over a khuk. Why, same tired reasons of energy conservation blah blah blah. That and I would have more options with more tools at hand. Improv would be easier. Heck, my Leatherman Surge has everything but a corkscrew, really. Perfect for fixing exisiting equipment, cutting fishing line, cleaning and dressing any game (if any), light sawing, splinter removal.

A good khuk in a survival situation, IMHO, would have to be a good all arounder. I'm thinking an 18" Siru or maybe even a WWII (your choice of length). Munk's Sher Attitude Razor looks very promising. Pair that slim package with a quality mulitool and you have quite the package. I'm looking forward to trying mine out in such a manner this coming spring if possible.

This all goes without saying, that I think a Sarge knife honed to a razor's edge would be all the tool I would need to get me by for a short stint in the woods for a day or two. Anything beyond that and it wouldn't really matter what kind of knife I had. My survial skills would probably run out long before my tool selection did.

I'm going to bet he'd like Bilton with him. I've always wanted an excuse to write Mr. Stroud, so maybe if there's enough speculation I'll ask?

Apparently the next season of Survivorman is going to be a bit different. I've heard somwhere that he's going to different continents or something. Why not Nepal/Himalayas?

Les and his wife lived in the Canadian wilderness for over a year using only stone tools, so it's obvious that he can take care of himself outdoors. That's one of the things that make his show so facinating when he plays out likely 'lost in the woods' scenarios.

I'd for sure record a' khukuri fanatic loose in the wilderness' show, even though it probably wouldn't be as intense as his usual stuff.

With Stroud's luck, he wouldn't be allowed to carry anything larger than the PK, which would still be an excellent choice.

16.5" WWII is a great all-around kuk, light but effective.

I'm betting one of the shorter BGRS chillun might work well, too.

The Hanuman or Dui chirra.

For sheer balls to the walls Chiruwa AK. The only reason you can't live on it is because it doesn't have walls and a roof. It does have a floor.

My Victorinox Swiss Tool can beat your Leatherman any day of the week!>>>>>>>>>> Edward Teach

Actually, knives don't really do that; beat each other up. People say they do, but it never happens. I like that everyone can get the khukuri, and knife, that is right for them.

I just got an auto reply that Les has seen my letter. That off the grid thing seems interesting Cliff. That's something I think a lot of city dwellers need to see. Here in Toronto, and maybe in other cities, people believe an independent life is degrading or impossible.

That's a cool show! I just watched an episode on line.

I'd say one of the small ones like the Bilton (I have a Dahran Chitlangi that would work). I have used WWII in the wet and the scabbard doesn't like the rain one bit. I think a smaller Khukri would be easier to carry with all the other gear Les has to carry. Easier to keep dry too!
