Does anyone ever watch Survivorman on Discovery Channel? I was watching him today and he was standed at sea and then on a island for 7 days and he was using a Victorinox Swisstool, you seem him use it often in this episode.

Thought is was neat to see that

Discovery channel will show several episodes in a row, one night this week, with the new season starting this Friday.

Sorta fun watching to see what knife/multi-tool he (and Bear Grylls) use. I can only recall seeing Les use a SAK to cut the water lillies that made him sick, but perhaps he has used others.

right on

On Survivorman, he alsways seems to have either a Swisstool or some sort of SAK, which he uses sensibly. That ridiulous Man vs. Wild guy usually has some tactical locking folder that he is always batonning (once with a rock!)

I've got the Survivorman Season 1 DVD set from Wal-Mart which includes a bonus ep (never aired) on urban survival -- the set's about $17 so it's well worth buying!

IIRC, the multis Les uses are (I welcome corrections if I mis-remember anything):

Canadian Boreal Forest - Vic Swisstool
Arizona Desert - Leatherman Wave
Costa Rica - Vic Swisstool
Georgia Swamp - Vic Camper (or possibly Ranger) - I saw a saw, corkscrew, and main blade for sure
Canadian Arctic - Vic Swisstool
Mountain - Vic Swisstool
Canyonlands - Vic Swisstool
Plane Crash - Vic Swisstool
Lost at Sea - Vic Swisstool

I notice that Les relied on a Leatherman only in the dryest of environments. Could this have something to do with rust resistance?

I think this episode did air at least one time. I remember watching it. It was
all about a post-Katrina type situation unless I'm mistaken.

Several episodes in a row will air tonight on DSC Channel.

If his favourite multitool is the Leatherman Wave, why does he use the Vic Swisstool in all but two episodes?

Just guessing, but more than likely if it is a swisstool, its a commercial endorsement. Victorinox wants the exposure and is willing to pay for it.

I've watched both guys a few times and I gotta say that Bear fella is gonna get someone killed some day with his antics. He takes way too many stupid chances. I can just see some greenhorn trying one of those stunts one day that he saw on tv. Too bad, cause he seems like a very capable guy.

Anyway, for anyone who has a membership at Netflix, they have the Survivorman series. I just ordered it for myself.

id say its the other way round. he named leatherman by name in an interview. hed lose any endorsement deal he had very quickly if he says anything but the ones paying him. drew carrey lost his a and w endorsement when he ate at a mcdonalds in his show

I'm pretty sure it was a Huntsman used in the swamp episode.

Hey TCK,
What kind of dualsport are you sitting on there. Looks like Suzuki mirrors, DRZ, DRS? How about the girls in you pic, TTR, CRF/XR? Just curious. What you got?

Mine is a DR650, The wife rides a DR200, my oldest daughter rides a Honda CRF100 and the youngest has a CRF70 she needs to grow into, plus the mini 4wheeler. We also have a 05 Yamaha Rhino for kayaking/canoe camping trips. I have a TJD track Kit that I put on it in winter.

Sorry to get off topic guys! I'm easily distracted when the topic switches to bikes and ATVs!

Nice. I tried to edit my post, but was knocked offline. I knew the blue bike was a Zook by the speedo/ odo cable clamp on the right fork leg.
I had a 400s for awhile.
I bought my nephew a CRF50 a couple of weeks ago for his 4th birthday and his mom had a canary.
Sorry for hijacking the post guys. I saw the episode where Les had the SwissTool when he found that island after being lost at sea. He seemed hard on it.

After reading through the entire FAQ on Les' site, I think he may be using the term 'Leatherman' as a synonym for multitool, rather than meaning the specific brand Leatherman.

Les is an actor, and the multi-tool is just a prop. Like Seinfeld's cereal box. Its my favorite show on television, but it is just a guy pretending to be lost.
