If I'm reading this correctly, it looks like Survivorman returns to the Discovery Channel tonight (1/1/14) at 9pm EST. Season 4, Ep 1. Just FYI for those who care.

I saw that. This old dog is always up for learning another new trick.

Yep, I recorded it and am watching it now.
He just showed us how to sharpen a machete with a file.
He even talked about raising a burr on both sides.

I was surprised that he didn't use any of his own designs, Camillus etc.

After much looking, it could be the Les Stroud Valiente Brut, but that handle looked totally wrong.

Looks like it could be the Fuego, from the same line. I thought he was done with them. If anyone is looking for it by other methods, its listed as season5ep1. I'm currently finding his other series Secrets of Survival. might be good.

Oops! I didn't know he had a new series with Camillus. The Brut is the one he has used in both of the new episodes along with a machete.

He has said that one if the reasons he did the knives with camillus, was the cost. He wanted to do a range of knives that were reasonably in everyone's price range. Although it looks like the newer ones have gone a bit higher on the scale. Its interesting to see what design happens by a non-knife guy. That is to say someone who just uses them and doesn't study and think about every little detail like some of us do here. 440 might not be the best, but at least its something and not some branded "wonder steel"
He also has the Helle which is very nice looking.
He goes by the best knife is the one you have, which is why in lots of the earlier episodes he used a leatherman or SAK as its a pretty easy "always have" instead of a dedicated "survival knife"
