I've been eyeing a Sus Scrofa ever since they were annouced. Was wondering what people use theirs for. Also Do you think it would make a good camp knife?

To me a camp knife is a general use blade, typicly has a blade between 4" and 6" long. It will occationally be used to prepare food, cut twine and rope, open packages, cutting small branches for roasting sticks or camp crafts. I like the blade shape, think it's great for cutting branches, cardboard cable ties and the like. Wondering how it would work preping a dutch oven dinner.

Am also looking at the SAR knives. I like the SAR 5 best but it's going to be a limited run. Skunk teased us last night with some pictures, so When is he going to post them, or was I to late? How much will they be? I'll even consider the SAR 4, got any idea on it's release date?

Thanks in advance,

Heber - Former Busse ownder that wants some again. ;)

You'd best get at least one of each to be sure you've covered the bases. :D

I've been hunkered down all winter, so my Scrofas have been cozily napping in a drawer or sheath.

Skunk posted the handles in his teaser thread. Don't need to see the blade because Jerry's post showed the whole knife.

I've been looking at the Scrofa for use as a camp knife as well. The only concern I have is food prep duties, I think you would have to learn to slice and chop food with the tip instead of using the base of the blade.

Agreed. I think azshaman used hers in the kitchen with no complaints. Not that I cook much, but the hawkbill wouldn't be my first choice. If it were my only choice I'm sure I could get along just fine.

Isn't there a modded SS out there that is in a Warncliffe style? Maybe that would make it more useful as a camp knife?

Personally, I find the Scrofa a little pointless. ;) Yeah, that was bad. Sorry, hogs. :D

Not my kind of knife, since I like a good pointwork, but it would make a mean little kitchen knife for the heavier stuff, like chopping bone.

Winner! I used my--Fear It!!--Scrofa as a small kitchen knife and have been very happy with it...but now that I have a Cultie it really gets the nod as a kitchen knife. The Scrofa is going camping with me soon! :)

i use my scrofa as a utility blade, straps, boxes, twigs and a little in the kitchen. always on the camp table
.

And when it gets dull you just grab another out of inventory!

the mini SS would be my ideal next knife if it was a flat blade, and a bit wider blade (simply to make it easier to use the flat edge on a cutting board without the knuckles getting in the way). It looks like a great cutter, the curve would make it more effective at aggressive cutting.
