So I'm considering getting some suspenders, belts just don't work right for me... I can never get them adjusted to be just perfect.
So to you guys out there that wear them, what works best for you? X straps, Y straps? I saw these side clip ones at Duluth Trading http://www.duluthtrading.com/store/clothes-workwear/mens/mens-belts-mens-suspenders/75125.aspx?feature=product_3#
Anyone have experience with these? Seems to me that X straps would hold the best.
Any suggestions?

By the way, I'm looking for something casual, I don't need anything for a suit. And more than likely I will be wearing them under my shirt.

I worked on a pair of those Duluth ones for a friend of mine. He didn't like what the alligator clips were doing to his belt and waist band, so I replaced them with some leather loops that fit around his belt and snap together.
Those Duluth are hefty and good quality.
I've been thinking of getting them to help carry a large gun/rig and other stuff I would carry while out in the woods.

I have Y straps with the buttons not the clips for a couple suits and they can be very comfortable (you can wear loose fitting trousers without cinching up a belt). They are a pain if you have to go to the men's room for a sit down, at least compared to a belt.

They are light duty ones; I don't know which ones you'd want for heavy duty wear or if the X style works better. The heavy duty clip ones are fine for once in a while, but if you wear the clip ones regularly you are going to wear out the pants.

I wore nothing but suspenders for about twenty years, on everything from suits to jeans. Stay away from the clips; sooner or later they give way and the suspenders fly over your head. Very disconcerting, both to you and anyone around you; it happened to me a few times when I was leaning over, and I provided quite a show. Get some buttons sewn on the pair of pants you'll use the most, and try the real things.

For light use, X or Y doesn't matter. For regular or heavy use, go with the X.
