Buco-8

Buco-10

I see the vintage red Buck logo on these Suunto Compasses and I wonder if anyone can authenticate them as Buck products. What were they sold with something (like in a survival kit), did they vend by themselves or were Buck decals simply added to ordinary compasses?

Anyone know anything? Thank you.

Well O,

I could not help but notice the Edge 2000 insignia on those compass's. Go to the year 2000 catalog and then come back and tell us what you see.

Thank you kindly erudite forum members.

Not on the price list. But 4 pages from the back of the 2000 catalog! We have authentication. Yes we do.

Ahh, The era of the Buck darts and other merchandise. I still have my small all plastic display case, I will take photo for Sunday Show...300

Nothing too wacky in the 2000 Catalog. Ion fusion for the 110 119 180 (Crosslock) and the 192 (Vanguard), the Tiburon for $66 Suggested Retail back then, 301 Stockman $40 SR, 110 $59 SR, 106 $60 SR, no darts visible

Like one of these display cases:

Surprising on two counts:

1. To find a new Buck Suunto compass available 16 years down the road (Buco-8) still available. I know of the three models, Buco-8 & Buco-10 and see the third model with the lid pictured above, but wonder how many models of compasses were actually marketed.

2. That Buck didn't go with the Silva brand compass, used with the collectible Buckmaster 184, when they added a line of compasses to their outdoor product line.

I seem to recall a Buck Compass salesman display case with a few compasses offered for auction a year or so ago. I was tempted but I think it went too high.

One another note the triangle is my fav Buck logo. In color of course.

It is small. Unique with the "Outdoor Products" decal" and the foam cutouts for the 10 Suunto compasses from Buck's Outdoor Product line that maybe never even hit stores. $21.21 delivered but sold out now.

Question: Did the Buck branded Suunto compasses ever actually vend in stores? I searched the forum without joy for Suunto with the Buck brand. And, except for the salesman sample case and its contents on the big auction site haven't found hide nor hair of em. How about you? There was supposed to be ten compasses with the Buck brand. TEN!

The Buck Field And Camp Set would have been a terrific place to find a compass:

I wonder if any of the Buck branded Suunto compasses made their way into any sets with knives or other gear?

MaxCast, this logo is for you:

I like that logo! Thanks for the pic. I also like that folding saw in the camp and field set. I had it on my Birthday list but received other things instead. Want to take it hunting to clear my view.
Yes, that is a quick video.

The logo is a thick substantial material, not a decal, found on both sides of the case. I've never seen the "Outdoor Products" wording on that logo before. Unique in my experience.

The field and camp set can still be found if you hunt and peck. Leroy had the bag a few months ago. The contents are still available a piece at a time. Everyone should have one of em IMHO.

These cases are head and shoulders above the ones from the last BCCI reunion in Post Falls. The one I have is pristine and as new. I wiped the dust with a damp cotton cloth and it shines. Bigger than I thought it would be and more robust than I had anticipated. Now I need the other 8 compasses! :). Something to work on.

Never knew Buck vended Suunto. Nor that they sold long johns....

Heh, at first I thought that logo pic was a thick mouse pad or something it was so defined and substantial. Then I realized it was the side of the case. I guess Buck took a hit on R&D for the compasses. Do you know what year this was?

2000 is the year that the Suunto compasses appeared in the Buck Catalog. I believe the compasses already existed in the Suunto product line. Buck may have put their "spin" on some of them. For example the two that I have show camo on the movable dial. I've never seen this on another compass and guess that this could be unique to the Buck version of that Suunto model of compass. Other of the ten that fit into the case could have only the Buck logo triangle or maybe nothing at all to make them "Buck" products. I don't know. I would like to find out. Perhaps someone has all ten compasses and can shed some light on the differences/similarities of the Buck vs regular Suunto model. I bet none are made only for Buck.

When I first saw the case on eBay I thought that the logo was a decal. In person the logo is solid, thick and rigid. That design would make a great mouse pad, rug, floor mat, glass etch, and such. I've seen baseball caps with that logo. It is a terrific one isn't it.
