Hello everyone,
I am interested in possibly purchasing a Suunto watch. Does anybody out there have one? How do you like it and what are your main uses for this watch? My job I could really use the compass function and I might use the heartrate monitor. The appear to be pretty hitech and get good reviews. I see on their websites they have a forum and good customer service. Does anyone down load their watch info to their pc? Maybe I could just save alot of money and buy a quality watchband with a compass attached! Are there any these in cyber space? Thanks for all your input and links once again!

I have a Suunto X-Lander. It is not my every day watch, but it has come in handy when out hiking. The functions all work well, I find it easy to use, and it keeps good time. What more could you ask? :)

My one caution is that if you haven't examined the watch in person you should pay close attention to the size specifications. My X-Lander is a huge watch. Not uncomfortable or particularly ungainly, but definitely very large.

bquinlan,
This is the model I am considering. I like the fact that it has the mineral crystal, steel case, leather band. I am not sure if I want hrm. Where is the best price on these currently. Seems to be about 299. Thanks

I heard the batteries don't last too long. Hence the user can change them.

i second that...this watch along with the casio tough solar are GIANT, wait GIANT i looked forever to find a retailer to look at the size, never could find one ended up seeing someone in a computer store, and chatted with them a bit about it( suunto x-lander)they seemed to like it, and i have personal experience with the size of the casio, its just about as big, if not "clunkier". before dropping the big dollars on these watches really try to find a place to try them on. good luck in your purchasing of a new one though they have lots of wow factor.

I've had a Suunto Vector for several years now and I rather like it. It is a bit large for my wrist. I have the lanyard attachment and useally have it hanging from a daypac or such. One thing that impressed me about the company was their repair service. I had the Vector on a pac and closed the car door on the watch. The LCD was destoryed and the bezel was broken. I sent it to Suunto for repair. In about 10 days it was back in near new condition, including a new band, battery and battery cover. And the cost was only $35 for the repair and return.:) If I remember correctly, the max service for the vector was $75 and thay may be a replacement unit.

I have had my Suunto since it frist came out. I wear it all the time, yes it is big but so am I . It has given me excellent service, wore it is Afghanistan last year through some very dusty (fine almost talcum powder) storms, never a problem. I started out changing batteries every January, but this battery has been in since Jan 2002, still going strong. Spoke to the Suunto folks at the SHOT Show and the new Suunto has an easier menu to access. Each to his own but I have no hesitation recommending one.

I have the Vector and while it is huge it is easy to read. I find the menu a bit cumbersome to navigate and the alarm os too darned quiet to be of much value at waking me up. Other than those gripes, it is a great watch.

Do a search on Suunto as there have been a few threads about them. The biggest thing that sucks is the special watch straps/pins. The pin is curved, not straight like other watches. The leather band is not the greatest quality.
