On my way back from the beach 2 days ago, me and 2 of my fellow buddies, one a midshipman at the USNA and the other a Marine in the Reserves, decided to stop at Fort Jackson on our way back up to east Tennessee.

I was looking for one of the suunto watches with an electronic compass, altimeter, barometer, etc... One of my Lieutenants here in our battalion has the Suunto Vector and thats the 1 i was after.

Well, I found it and got it out the door for $114.95!!!! they retail here in johnson City for $199.99!!!! huge plus being able to buy from the PXs on Army bases.

Do any of you have one of the Suunto watches? this vector is an awesome piece for sure. The compass is dead on and I still havent had the time to figure out how to get the altimeter and barometer running. Hopefully tomorrow I will be able to get some time to read the book on how to get this working! Anyone own a Suunto watch????

I figure it will prove to be invaluable on Land Nav @ Ft. Lewis this summer.

I have a Suunto Vector. My watch ticks very precisely for a non-radio controlled wristwatch. The compass works, the altimeter is also surprisingly good. Just be sure to adjust as often as possible - it calculates the altitude by measuring the air pressure.
Couldn't be happier with mine. Maybe if it had a mineral lens.

i have the suunto observer... great watch, everything works as I expected (hoped) it would... only let down is the timid alarm on it.

enjoy yours.

I have a several year old Vector and am very pleased with. Keeps good time. Compass is dead on. The back light and alarm are a little week but the light is still useable and I don't think I've ever really used the alarms (I think it has 2 or 3). The thing that impressed me most is Suunto's service. I really smashed the watch a little over a year ago, closed the tailgate on it. Case was dahaged and display was broken. I contcated Suunto customer service. Followed their instructions and had the watch back in less than two weeks ( I think it was closer to 10 days) for $35 in repair charges. Looked good and worked correctly when I got it back.

I've have a Suunto Vector in my closet for about 6 Years now. I saw one on ECO Challenge and had to have one. When it was operational it was very nice. I was really Mountain Biking, Running, and Swimming a lot. Really light weight. It just wasn't tough enough in the long run for me, mine didn't do well with incidental water contact so it's been in the closet ever since.

its supposed to be a great watch.

i bought mine at Fort Jackson (im not in the military - im an ROTC cadet) when me and a few buddies drove by and Im pleased with mine thus far. still learning the book... its a thick book!!!
