Earlier, I posted a pretty damning review of a Native (SV-30) that I used to carry. Does anyone know if the Native III with the thicker handles has a stronger lock than the SV-30 Native?

I really don't think the lock on your Native failed because Native S30V locks aren't strong enough. I think yours failed because your particular one is defective.

Do you really think that the lock on your S30V Native was totally up to spec?

I really don't know if it was up to specs, but I did expect it to perform better than it did. Just looking at it, it seemed fine and locked up well afterwards. But when really put to the test, it gave out where the Delica kept going. So I was just curious, since Sal keeps specifying the lock strength of the "USA" made Native, but not the Seki-made product. Either way, I'll have a Delica for life.

You should find a way to get it in Sal's hands and see what's up. Having used a 440V and still owning the VG-10 (Native III) versions, I can tell you that there's no visible difference in the lock. They're both solid and dependable if nothing's actually wrong with them.

Good choice on the Delica either way.

I don't think that the lock on the Native III is any better than the lock on the S30V Native.
I think that they are both reliable and plenty strong for what you should expect from unlined FRN handled knives.

Having said that...
The Native III has a much better handle design IMO.
Whereas the Native handle was uncomfortable in my hand, the Native III felt awesome!

Good Luck,
Allen.
