Random question this morning. Why do some sellers have a higher trade value than sale value? Is the knife worth more in a trade? I wish cars were like that !

I think it just means they dont want to trade it unless they are going to get a favorable deal. Cash is king.

With it you can buy whatever you desire and in whatever configuration.
Since you would rather have cash than trade, you will take less
It also counters those (that may reply) that have an inflated idea of their trade value.

That makes a lot of sense. Sellers are not necessarily putting a higher value for a trade rather a discount for cash. Thanks guys!

I've even seen it a few times the other way around. Someone has a knife they like but want to trade, maybe for something else very specific, so they'll put a reasonable trade value and high sale value. I.e. "I don't really want to sell but will if you offer enough money."
