I was given a Svord folder by a secret santa.
It reminded me a lot of a mora or a tramontina. Its a nice canvas to start with and easy to mod for both looks and comfort. The blade is a carbon steel but I don't know what. I gave it a patina with vinigar but it was darker than the patina my O1 knives took so I polished it off to a near mirror finish.

Here is what the knife looked like when I received it (stock photo)

The handle was very uncomfortable. There was a sharp angle about 1/4in from the edge of the handle all the way around. I disassembled the knife and sanded the sharp corners and edges and slightly rounded the back of the handle for more comfort.

The blade was dull and very uneven. It was over heated in a couple spots and the iridescent rainbow on a few places along the edge and tip showing the heat damage. The colors went back about one millimeter. I ground down one mm along the entire length with a file and then sharpened it up to 2000 grit paper. It needed a little work but it took a great edge when all was done.

Edge retention. I did some carving, notched a couple traps and fire boards, and made a lot of feather sticks from all the woods on hand. That covered everything from the soft birch to the hard seasoned oaks I keep for firewood. I think the edge was comparable to a reprofiled mora with a thicker edge to match the Svord's geometry. It was also easy to retouch the edge as needed with only my fine ceramic rod and strop.

Anyway, here is the knife after I finished with it. The red and black is to match the color theme of my arrows from my last thread. I'll get pics tomorrow when its light out again of the fuzz sticks and traps etc...

Over all I'm very happy with this knife. It sells for the same price point as a mora and has tons of potential after a little work to make it comfortable. I spent less than half an hour on mine and am very pleased with the knife I ended up with.

Nice. Its made of L6 steel.
On My svords i put a few blobs of mustard and rub it around with a cut lemon.
I get a nice colour case harden look.
When you oil it . it will turn grey.

good review and nice mods. I have oftern looked at these at Ragnors site but now i'm sure to give it a try.

Good lookin little knife. I've always wanted to try one and I have a real appreciation for a low priced knife that performs well beyond it's cost. Thanks for post Md 25v.

I've been breaking down boxes and things (cleaning up from Xmas) and every once in a while I check the edge, still shaves so far....
will keep updating
