I'm just curious if anyone has tried one out?

thank you

I haven't but I've been really interested in it. I tend to stay away from single hand hatchets, but at the price point and what I've seen with their use of L6 it should be awesome for what it is. Now if I can just not be in massive debt...

I have NOT tried the Svord...but like Canary I find the one handed hatchets pretty limited. I would choose Svord's machete or a machete/bolo/parang offering from Mora, Condor, or Ontario etc long before the pictured hatchet.

Sorry if that's not helpful as it doesn't directly answer your question.

ETA: If you're looking into offerings from Svord or interested in a machete definitely check Baryonyx!!!! http://www.baryonyxknife.com/

I bet it does have a nice level of edge retention, the small amount I've used my Kiwi machete indicates just that. Yet, it seems very light, the big hole in the head, and it's a thin stock for a hatchet don't add up to much. It may have it's uses, but I'd rather have a much heavier head on a hatchet or hawk if I'm going to be chopping wood. As ugly as the yellow material may be, my Kiwi machete's sheath is tough stuff. I painted mine with some camo spray paint, it looks better now.
I know weight is an issue when backpacking, but I'd still rather have something with more mass at the head. I've owned a small hatchet, similar in size, and it would take all day to chop through anything with some size. Maybe the hole is there to shove a rock through

Heehee--thanks for the plug. :p

I think the hatchet is an...interesting? design but don't really see the practical elements of the piece vs. their machete. Why the heck did they punch the big hole out of it? That almost reduces the sectional density by 2/3 over the sweet spot...

This is clearly a spaghetti hatchet!

The hole is for sizing your spaghetti bushels once you've harvested and dried your crop.

:D

Thanks for the replies! I have a svord machete from Benjamin! Love it, it outchops a ton of heavier knives.

I have the one with micarta handles with brass bolsters, got mine from Svord here in NZ but I have seen them on US dealer sites too.
The hole is most likely for hanging, but cant say for sure, it should not affect the strength as circles are quite tough in that direction, once again just speculating, weight reduction maybe?
Have smashed a few trees up with mine and great for splitting firewood. Not a substitute for a machete but have their uses, mine is thick as heck and full tang, really stout chopper. The orange handled version looks longer and slimmer, but also less than 1/3 the price.

As cool as the micarta one is, they're soooooo spendy for a hatchet that small and light. I could get a GB for the cost of the Svord.
