I made 2 practice handles for my svord peasent knife matching the original handle. I figured everything out but 1 thing. How do I drill the rear hole so the brass fasteners lay flush with the handle. I know they need to be 2 or 3⁰ off 90⁰ for the back fastener faces to lay flat. There has got to be an easy way to do that. I have the correct double countersink bit that will drill the correct inside diameter of the faster and the head diameter all at once. My thought is using the blade to prop the pivot point gap between the scales and let the tail touch like a sideways V, then shim the tail side so the V lays perfectly on its side under the drill press. Drill the hole and countersink to the correct depth, flip and do the other side.
Is there an easier way? I want to get it perfect with more practice pieces because I plan on making a cocobolo or Indian ebony wood handle for it and that stuff is way to expensive for scrap pile mistakes.
