I have a set of smith and Wesson military issue first production run sw1000 numbered 1-5. Does anyone know anything about these knives? Any input would be great. Thanks.

They were made in the late 1990's, and were still available through about 2000 or so. They were made when Taylor Cutlery first acquired the S and W name rights, and they were trying to put out better knives that were made in Japan and the US. These were made in America, but I don't know who had the contract. They were priced around $100 - 125 for the regular production models. Smokey Mountain Knife Works was a big retailer in them.

The plan didn't work out that well and the US and Japanese knives were dropped after a few years, and production was switched to cheaper sources.

Not sure what the numbers 1-5 mean.

Here's a look at them for people that never saw them -

Thanks for the info, definitely helpful. I’m just curious about the numbers. It’s factory etched on the blades so I didn’t know it that was a rare thing. I’m guessing so since I haven’t seen any others s like that. Appreciate the info.
