Before buying one, I’d like to know your thoughts and opinions on Swamp Rat Bog Dog. Does the tang run through the whole handle?
Thanks in advance!
Bye

Bear,
Welcome to the Rat's Nest, glad you stopped by.

The Tang runs very nearly to the end of the handle (within 1/4") We don't run it through the end of the handle in order to keep the handle as sealed as possible. This keeps any dirt, blood, etc from getting under the handles.

I do not think any of the Bog Dogs have shipped, so the only thoughts I have on the BD it should be great for kitchen prep when camping.

Have they shipped?

Bear,

Since they aren't being shipped as yet, opinions maybe hard to come by but I did get my hands on one at Blade West and it seems like a sweet blade, great handle and I have one on order.

I handled them at Blade West and was very impresed with the overall balance and feel of them and I especially like the feel of the new handles!

Thanks for starting this thread...

Does anyone have a guess at the kind of edge geometry the Bog Dog has? To me it looks like a pretty thin full flat grind. It seems to be one heck of a slicer...but thats just a guess. And with that price...I just might have to buy two:D

I ordered one because it looks like it is a full flat grind, I thought it woould be a great kitchen prep knife. I just wonder what the finish is: double-cut, bead-blasted, or satin finish.

An update on went they might be shipping would be cool.

I know I know TWO WEEKS:D

May the force be wit you always

I placed my order for a Bog Dog just few days ago, and now I’m waiting! I’m quite impatient to try the feeling with the knife!
Any comment from the firsts who get it will be appreciated!

I ordered one as well along with the new rat tail.

As for opinions. Well, lets see, D-2 is a top end steel and properly heat treated can rival some of the most extreme steels. Les robertson professes how great the Brend Knives are, and they are made of stock removal D-2. Maybe what makes the Brends so great is quite likely the heat treat method that Brend uses. We all know how good the heat treat that the Busses and SwampRats are kown for and applying that heat treat to D-2 can only mean great things at an incredibly affordable price. That's good enough for me. Now, if they would only make a Fatty version also:eek:
