Just putting a question out there for discussion. What is the best swamp rat/busse knife for a pack if I'll be elk hunting in Colorado?

I live in CO and I can tell you this; unless you're on a horse, whatever you bring it should be lightweight - the altitude and mountains will decimate your aerobic ability.

I'd choose either the Rodent Solution or the RMD. Both are also nicely spec'ed and would serve you well. Personally, I carry a heavy custom, but am acclimated to the thinner air here so it's not as much a problem. Regardless of your aerobic ability, it will take a couple days for your system to adjust to the thin air here, so make sure you make time for that.

Its funny to see folks carry large belt knives chugging, huffing and puffing (and stopping for breaks) up the trails during elk season. They are probably in excellent condition in the home environment, but the thin air and long, steep slogs up into elk country are humbling.

I already have a rodent 5 inch and have a kydex sheath coming for it. So the solution is the way to go then?

If you've got a Rodent 5, there's not much reason to get the RMD...unless you just like it better. (I'm a big RMD fan, so it's tempting to nudge you in that direction).
I haven't gotten around to getting a Rodent Solution yet...but I have a Rodent 3 (and another on order from the Custom Shop). Either would be great addition with the Rodent 5...but neither would really replace it, IMO

If you already have a 5, the RS would make a great companion to it. Especially for hunting/skinning.
