I just released and inquiry to Swamp Rat Custom Shop about getting two previous knife models done in Red/Black G10. The M9 and HRLM.
Does that rely on if theres a knife blank around kinda like Busse Combat normally handles these kinds of request?
Or do they only do custom work with current production run knives.

I'm really enjoying my 1st two rats the Ratmandu and CS Rodent Trail and I really like the looks over the M9 over the Rodent 9 so I was hoping I could at least go that route.

They will make it if there is a blank laying around but Rat blanks are more rare than the Busse blanks are imo.

However that being said if you can snag one of these second hand you can send your knife into the custom shop and they will make mods to it for you.

Yeah I've recently seen a couple M9s go out on the exchange one was priced pretty well but generally theyre a little more than I had wanted to pay ontop of mod fees.
I was just kinda hoping I could get a brand new one at a reasonable price if I was just patient enough to wait.
I think that If I bought one off the exchange I probably couldn't let it go:D

But this is the nature of the game with Busse n kin.
 
Just out of curiosity what mods are you wanting done?

I am not sure if some of them can be done after heat treat or not due to tempering such as grind mods (removing top guard from R6 for example). But hey Josh and crew can do some magical stuff so it never hurts to ask.
 
Well the only real change to one Id get one the exchange would just be a handle swap for Red/Black G10. So really not much custom work but I'm guessing it will have to come out of the custom shop since its not in production and with the dealing of G10 slabs over canvas. Just hoping they have a knife blank laying around.

By the looks and reviews of it the M9 is pretty perfect as is.
 
Don't look pass the R9 it is an excellent knife. I've had 3 m9s and don't get me wrong it's a sweet knife but for the price you could get a R9 for right now can't be beat. The R9 feels really good in the hand and it is sharp, the point of the blade is amongst the most pointy I've felt amongst all Busse and kin even the M9. So just give that some thought.

I've watched videos of it and read reviews I'm just hesitant to try those lightning bolt handles. I know that if I didn't like it I could get my money back on 2ndary market but I'd sooner get something I know I'll like.

Right...With being a past production I'm wondering if theres a rhyme or reason for making past production knife blanks. Enough people bugging about certain models in particular or what does it take to bring a few back for a short while through the custom shop.
