...Magnetic??? was this ever discussed before?

i was checking out my newly acquired bog dog and decided to measure it with the dog skinner. when i put the blades next to each other they stuck a little like 2 weak magnets. so then i pull out my safari skinner and whaddaya know it's magnetic too! i then took a paper clip and it readily stuck to all 3 swamp D2 blades. i tried all sorts of D2 from benchmade, ontario, camillus, kabar, etc. and could not feel even the slightest trace of magnetism.

further "experiments" with the paper clip lead me to find that the edge has more magnetic properties than the spine, which has very little. is this by design or just a coincidental result.

so is this old news or am i on to something here  i hope i don't get deanimated with a SOUL-2 for posting this... :footinmou

I'm interested to find out more about this one myself.

Interesting.

When my Dog Skinner gets here from Dwayne I’ll put a paper clip near it and see what happens.

Interesting. When I read this I got my Safari skinner out and it picks up a paper clip too. BTW, there is no way this knife has come into contact with any other types of magnets. I just thought i'd mention that before someone asks. :D Could it have to do with the heat treat? Enquiring minds want to know :)

I've been thinking about this and im FAR from a scientist so please don't laugh at my wild theory, BUT is it possible to use magnetism to align the carbides toward the edge? this would be like a differential temper in essence with the blade having all the carbides for cutting and the soft matrix spine for flexibility. we've all seen what swamp rat D2 can do in those pics eric released a while back. can this be the reason?

oh no, i think i hear that Soul-2 in the background again... :footinmou

Just how many carbides have to die to make one Rat blade? ;)

You know, sometimes I wonder why people would want a Soul. I mean, with all the constant noise that they make -- it's so much quieter without one. ;)

Soul: "you know you want to take a picture of me and send it to 360 you know you do so why dont you why dont you use me you use your other knives all i ever wanted to do was to get used and to have my picture taken so that the world would know that i am more than just a pretty face i bite too you know that i could take down an entire acre of old growth forest in an afternoon dont you want to see just once you know that if i had a chance i could...."

Listen to the voices Madfast. They're speaking to you. ;)

Try running a magnet one way on the blade ... test with paperclip... then run magnet the other way... test with paperclip.

This trick is used to magnatize screwdrivers so you don't lose screws in tight places.

Let me know..
